Ate here for the very first time. Thought this was the same place that was once in Shirokiyas but now thinking it ain't. Noodles are little too soft for my liking, as I like my noodles a little chewy and not soft. Taste was ok. I also got the green tea canned drink since it was a can that I've never seen before. After drinking almost the entire can, I read the fine print on the can which has a WARNING: that this product contains a chemical that causes infertility. This was not the exact language on the can, but pretty close. It named the chemical but I don't remember. I should've taken a pic. After seeing this, I hope this business isn't using any other chemicals or products like in their green tea cans. I let the waitress know, and she had no clue, but now they are aware so we'll see how they remedy this knowledge they now have of this dangerous product.

We recently tried out the newly opened Udon Gama-Dashi at Kapahulu location. It has a cafeteria style dining area. When we first arrived, all the tables inside the restaurant had been occupied. The staff told us to put our name on the waitlist and wait outside to be called. The dining room is quite small in size. There were only a few tables for patrons to sit. When the staff called our name, we went up to the counter to order our udon. After we received our udon, we proceeded to the cashier to pay. There were also a variety of side dishes like tempura, onigiri, and croquettes to add to your meal. The cashier told us which table was available as we were paying. Overall, the udon noodles tasted pretty good. We enjoyed our udon very much.

The Mentai Butter & Obama Udon tasted like udon in pasta sauce. It was really flavorful. However, I prefer the traditional style udon, so I'll be trying this the next time I go back. The restaurant is cafeteria style where you have to order first before you sit down. We went during dinner rush, so the staff held strict rules regarding that so people couldn't reserve their seats while part of their party waited in line to order. This made things more efficient and allowed for people to get their food, eat it, and carry on with their day.

"The deliciousness that even Kyushu locals would approve of!! Lunch at the 'Gamadashi Udon', a Hakata-style noodle shop that opened in my neighborhood. If you're from Kyushu, you'd probably start with the gobou (burdock root) tempura! However, unfortunately, my stomach wasn't feeling well, so I opted for the Kitsune (fried tofu) instead of something oi "Kitsune san" wasn't too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness for Japanese mouth:)) Soft and chewy noodles are a must for Kyushu udon, and they were splendidly recreated here in Hawaii, which was truly impressive! The thin, soft&chewy noodles were wonderfully infused with a gentle broth, making it extremely delicious. The staff were also lovely with their smiles and provided impeccable service! "I'm happy to have discovered another new favorite spot in the neighborhood P.S. Please refrain from commenting on me eating tempura while complaining about stomach pain

I've gone here WAY too many times so a review is long overdue.... For the price/portions, this is a STEAL. I always order a regular size Niku udon. (I cant even imagine how big a large is because this itself is filling). The broth is just so rich and light. The tempura is such a good touch too. It's self serve so it's pretty simple: You grab a tray and say what udon you want and pick out your own tempura or onigiri. Very limited seating if you're coming with a big group of people however, but good place to grab lunch!

Nestled in Kapahulu, Udon Gama Dashi is a haven for noodle lovers. Their handmade Yawamochi udon noodles boast a perfect balance of elasticity and softness, paired impeccably with dishes like the Mentai Butter and Ontama egg. Despite tight parking, the exceptional service and delicious tempura make it a must-visit, earning a solid 5 stars rating. Just plan your visit off-hours to fully indulge in the culinary experience.

Luckily there was no line when we came in for Saturday lunch because this place is pretty small. The udon were great but I wish it had a little more flavor in the broths. I love that the tempura flakes was scoop your own because I love tempura flakes. We had the goboutem udon and Nikutama Tsuyukake Udon. Both were great but I really think the Tsuyukake udon could've had a more bold sauce flavor. I loved the toppings that came with that one. Also the udon really fills you up. Friendly service and clean. There was no parking left in the lot so we had to park on the neighborhood street behind the shopping center and walk.

Great Udon in a small package! We went to Udon Gama-Dashi on a Thursday night and nearly all of their six (maybe seven?) tables were full - a good sign! They operate in a cafeteria style: pick up a tray, select your noodles, grab some tempura, and then order drinks and pay at the register. The service was very friendly and quick. Things were fresh and hot despite us arriving only 15 minutes before their closing time. They offer all the Hakata-style (Fukuoka) Udon selections that are typical. The tempura was crispy and light, and they even had a relatively rare (at least in my experience) Okinawan beer, Orion available. The broth was really nice, great flavor and depth. The noodles were not too heavy and with good bite to them. Topping were plentiful and I enjoyed the bright ambiance of the place. Definitely recommend and will be going back myself.

This place is pretty small. However I love that you can see them making the udon right in from of you. You choose which udon you want from the menu and they make it for you before you sit down. It's very quick. You can also get some tempura as well. I got the goboutem udon as I don't think I've tried that before. It's fried burdock root and it tastes like really crispy French fries. I also got a side of egg and some shrimp and sweet potato tempura. My husband got the curry udon with a side of the burdock root and squid and sweet potato tempura. The side area has a place where you can add some tempura flakes. I love that. The udon texture was really good. The flavor is the broth was ok. I just with the tempura was hotter but I know it must have been out a while. Overall, I'm glad we got to try it. I do love udon.

Best udon noodles I ever ate and best broth flavor. I usually think udon is plain, boring, and bland, but this place made me like udon. I'll be back!

Cutest little udon shop that makes their own noodles with the perfect chew. Highly recommend! It’s cafeteria style and they make your order on the spot. Then you can add any of their tempura selection for an additional price.
