I'm not much of a food connoisseur, and I've eaten at a lot of Michelen star restaurants because of the company I keep. I've always thought that the hype around most of these places were a marketing gimmick. I also couldn't sat seafood before I had covid.I didnt have high expectations for this place when I arrived, but I definitely was impressed. I thought everything was super delicious- from the main dishes to the sides. For the first time in my life I could taste the artwork and craftsmanship that went into the flavor combinations, and I'm impressed. I ordered the Umi tasting menu with wine pairing.I dont review restaurants much but I felt this one was worth reviewing. I definitely think it's worth a try, and then maybe you can tell me whether or not my pallet is unusual or if it genuinely is as good as I think.

This was our first time dining here & we really enjoyed breakfast. The hostess was so kind & explained so much about the restaurant including the artwork & the QR code to add Instagram filters. Most of us had the 2 course breakfast prix fixe & enjoyed what we ordered. We look forward to returning to try the dinner menu.

Very nice date restaurant. Service was great food was lovely. We decided to treat ourselves to a night out. A late birthday dinner for my husband. We ordered and food was served in a beautiful presentation. The only thing was the Imperial caviar was 200 an ounce and was served with a different kind of style it was served with a burdock foam and suvee egg. I think I prefer the traditional way with billini and eggs and onion. Just our opinion . My husband and I enjoyed and would recommend. Service-was wonderful

My husband and I finally had a date night and seeing this restaurant on TV so we wanted to give it a try and so happy we did. This restaurant is outstanding food is amazing. Service is great and highly recommend will definitely be coming here again and again :-)

The BEST dinner we've ever had in Hawai'i. We had tuna crudo, popcorn soup, monchong, tenderloin, and pavlova lilikoi plus birthday treat. Each dish was absolutely delicious and surprised us with refined flavors. And, the desserts were simply out of this world. Our taste-buds were full-bloomed when we finished our dinner. We are already looking forward to our next visit! Thank you so much

The experience began with a warm welcome from at the front of this stunning restaurant. The interior design is sleek and modern with a touch of Japanese influence. But the food is the star of the evening. Umi branded Imperial Osetra caviar served with a rich burdock root dip that paired perfectly with the caviar. Each of the dishes in the Umi Tasting menu was not only beautiful but very tasty and the wine paring was also very good. The scallop namasu was served in a delicious dashi broth and the Abalone was tender and loaded with Umami flavor. The butter poached lobster and generous portion of ribeye steak were also excellent. The famous Umi dessert was like a work of art and the Mango popsicle was delicious and definitely my favorite. This place is definitely one of the finest restaurants in Hawaii and should not be missed.

We first visited Umi two weeks ago and immediately made plans to return. The curry tasting menu was terrific. Hands down the best Indian food we've had on the island. It could easily compete with many Indian restaurants on the mainland. The salad was so refreshing, the curry so satisfying, and the mango popsicle so creative - all in all a fun experience. The cocktails are also very well done and add to the overall joy of dining here. The staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming. Their kindness to our group was greatly appreciated. Cannot recommend Umi enough!

This is the new restaurant in Halepuna Hotel, a sister property of the Halekulani Hotel across the street. The chef is highly regarded, running his own restaurant after making a name as the chef at Orchids for many years. This location housed the island's 1st location of the touted Nobu's which no longer has a presence on Oahu. Unlike the ensuing iterations, this restaurant is operated independent from the hotel. Our stay package based on the 2023 package that I reserved includes a two-course breakfast with a choice of coffee or tea. My first meal here started with the pineapple ( with sea salt. My main was the "Mai Tai" pancakes ( which comes with caramelized pineapple and coconut-rum essence. I enjoyed this as it had a mochi like texture and wasn't overly sweet. No need to comment on the pineapple since it's obviously locally grown as its sweetness paired well with the sea salt. The next day, I was intrigued by and tried the Shakshuka ( described as eggs in tomato sauce, feta and sourdough bread. Being a huge tomato fan, this blew me away, especially with that egg porn runny egg. My favorite of the four entrees that I tried. For my 1st course on my 3rd visit, I tried the papaya lime ( which was okay as some papaya pieces were on the bland side. For my main, I had the Loco moco ( described as egg, beef & pork pork patty, Hamakua mushroom gravy, and Koshihikari rice. This is definitely an elevated version that I would have again. For my final breakfast this trip, I tried the Umi fried rice ( seafood, bacon Koshihikari rice, egg, and Tsukemono. Because we had lunch engagements every day after these breakfasts, I chose the locally grown fruit for every meal. Being on the cool side weather wise steered me to have English breakfast tea on each visit. I really enjoyed the relaxed vibe and the ambiance of the restaurant, admiring the walls and how they are decorated. Big props to Autumn, Gary, and Bernadette for their friendly and efficient care for us in enjoying our meals. The biggest props go to Abby who mans the front of the house. It was an extreme pleasure meeting you and I wish we struck our conversation earlier during our stay. If you are dining here on a hotel meal package, do remember to tip your server. My snapshot visit here leads me to make a bookmark to make time for dinner on my next visit.

Had high hopes coming here and unfortunately left very disappointed. I work at a Michelin star restaurant, so I generally have higher expectations than most so take that into consideration. I ordered the Golden Osetra caviar and the umi tasting menu. The caviar course was definitely the highlight of the meal. The rest of the meal was very underwhelming and lackluster of flavor and uniqueness. Every course in a tasting menu should be dropped off with an as to what the dish prepared is. Nothing of the sort was. I ordered the cookie jar as a dessert and was served a cold cookie. If you’re going to charge a 7$ up charge they need be a good cookie not cold and sad. If you don’t go out for fine dining often or ever go and give it a shot. But if you’re a seasoned diner pass this up.

Runs about 250 per person without drinks. About as perfect value in regard to taste presentation and ambiance. They have a very simple menu for carnivores and vegetarians so you don't have to think. Allow for about 2 hours for a five part course

Fantastic venue with fabulous food in a lovely setting. Our servers Nate and Rebecca provided exceptional friendly service. Omar the manager was extremely attentive and accommodating. Back of the house produced food that make your pallet dance and visually appealing. Chef Garg should be proud. Will definitely be back!
