Through the grapevine from a fellow colleague and some Yeeps, a great place to also have dim sum in Chinatown is Won Kee Seafood Restaurant (WKSR). They took bold steps that deserve recognition. First of all, when Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant at Ala Moana Hotel closed its doors at the ending of October 2017, WKSR snagged their dim sum chef and the dim sum quality improved. Second, about a year ago WKSR bought out next door neighbor Legend Seafood Restaurant. During this major transaction, these 2 restaurants are making a statement in having great dim sum and Hong Kong style entrees between the 2 establishments located next door to each other. Third, in December 2019 WKSR closed for about 10 days and went under renovation. I recently came here with fellow Yeeps for a dim sum get together on a Sunday morning. And wow, was I impressed with these changes. Great face lift. New décor. Newly painted walls. Back in November 2019 a group of us came here for dim sum. We were greeted by the waitress who provided hot tea and iced water. When it came to getting dim sum, our waitress disappeared. Yes, she was MIA. A few minutes later, our waitress came from the outside pushing a cart of dim sum baskets! What the........... Then, it made me realize that the food came from next door Legend! We ordered an array of dim sum where some were tepid and some were hot. We didn't say anything because we were hungry and gobbled up the food. The food satisfied our tummies and the time was well spent over great convo. We were shocked at our bill as it was so reasonable. We recently celebrated a fellow Yeep's birthday and the guest of honor chose WKSR as the venue. Word must have leaked out of their good food and reasonable pricing because 12 Yeeps showed up on a Sunday morning at 8am. This time around we showed up too early because we arrived before the waitress reported to work. LOL! She disarmed the alarm keypad and opened the doors for us to enter. After being served pots of hot tea and iced water, she asked what type of dim sum we wanted as she had to get them from Legend. Time was spent well reconnecting with Yeeps because soon after our waitress rolled in with a cart filled with dim sum, mostly what we had requested. After we all took our pictures, we dug in and helped ourselves to the baskets of dim sum in front of us. For me personally, the stars were the steamed shrimp dumpling, curried beef tendon, chicken feet, steamed spareribs and the seafood basket dumpling, which surprisingly had shrimp, scallop and squid. Sooooooo good! The flavor of the chicken feet and curried beef tendon were really good and so gelatinous. It was a pleasant surprise to have found taro chunks at the bottom of the spareribs, which absorbed the pork juices. Yum!!! The only setback was not being to order anything from the kitchen. For long life we wanted to order noodles but was advised it's available from 10am. So, in lieu of the traditional long life noodles, the steamed shrimp cheung funn had to suffice. It was a tasty substitution. Despite only having one waitress on the floor, she did her best in refilling our tea pots where we consumed a lot of hot tea that clammy morning. We took the liberty in helping ourselves with more napkins and cleared our table by placing our empty baskets and dishes on the table next to us. Once again, our total bill was very reasonable and we even had some leftovers to take home. Despite having some flaws here and there, what really makes this a 5-star rating from me is the overall impression of the restaurant's new look, tasty dim sum and great value. But personally, spending quality time with fellow Yeeps with whom I have met via Yelp. They have become great friends where I deem them priceless and they definitely heightened the dim sum dining experience.

I bought $180 worth of food for the Chinese New Year dinner. The food is absolutely tasteless. Very disappointed...

This restaurant was the only one in the Chinese cultural plaza that wasn't busy during the festivities for Chinese New Year. No wait ..was the only reason we decided to dine, (no wait!) it was a bad decision. Ordered 7 items including whole Peking duck. Food started coming slowly one dish at a time after finally getting all the dishes we ordered toward the end of eating waitress comes to say sorry no more duck "you want rice" bwhahaha rice instead of no duck ? We nicely said that's ok to no duck bUt no thanks for rice . We waited forever for the check finally standing up to ask for it. I made sure I wasn't charged for the duck and the cold ginger chicken we ordered but also never got Paid and said I was going to leave a tip on the table I lied and had no intention on tipping Here's why .. we asked for water, she gave water after asking several times and only 3 cups for a party of 8 and never came back after we got food except to tell us no duck I always tip but not this time ... didn't think she deserved one Btw the waitress ran out to tell us tip is not included and no tip on the table. Food was horrible since this yelp is about food .

We've been coming here for years. Tonight, maybe because Cultural Plaza was full of people for Chinese New Year, this place was really disappointing. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, no wait for a table, but the service was slow and the food was bad. We ordered deep fried oysters. We got 3 oysters for $14.95. Then we ordered chinese style sizzling beef but got the black bean sizzling beef with the explanation, "We make the wrong one. You eat this one, okay?" The beef was so tough, some pieces were inedible. Very sad experience. Maybe it's time for Won Kee to retire from the restaurant world.

Overpriced and dishes salty.

In the heart of Oahu's Chinatown is a mall with many types of Chinese shops and restaurants. While there were many people waiting to get inside a neighboring restaurant, Won Kee, which is owned by the neighboring restaurant remained with open tables, although the kitchens are shared. Dim Sum was the topic of the moment, where the wife and relatives planned to have a morning Sunday meal. The food is typical Cantonese style dining, with many of the patrons speaking the dialect of the old country. My favorite is the tea leaf wrapped rice with meat and spices meant to hold over the farmers while working in the fields. This sweet rice wrapped in tea leaf is high in flavor, and will last all day without refrigeration. Other favorites are the beef noodle wraps with sweet soy sauce and of course, dumplings. The food was fine, but I always enjoy a packed restaurant as evidence of popularity, or at least meeting the taste buds of the locals...

Breakfast with the "Dim Sum Club" in Honolulu.... Nadine coordinated our November Dim Sum Club meeting at Won Kee Seafood Restaurant in the Chinese Cultural Plaza on South Beretania Street on a Saturday morning. We all met at 8:00am sharp as we figured we'd get the jump on the usual Chinese diners. Won Kee Seafood Restaurant has been one of the original tenants in the Chinese Cultural Plaza so we're talking about a 30+ year mainstay. However, we found that they recently bought or took over its neighbor, Legend Seafood Restaurant (our fave in past years). Suddenly, we started hearing mixed reviews (food quality/flavor and service) about Legend Seafood. However, undeterred, our group met to do some of our QC inspections. Luckily and thankfully, Paul C is fluent in Cantonese so we just let him know what we were interested in eating and he placed the orders. We weren't sure whether or not the servers were going to wheel in steamer carts to choose our selections from or if they'd just bring us the requested items. Our feast consisted of the following: - Siu Mai (Steamed Pork Dumplings) - Har Gow (Crystal Skin Shrimp Dumplings) - Chiu Chow Fun Goh (Crystal Skin Vegetable Dumplings - contains peanuts) - Phoenix Claws (Braised Chicken Feet) - Steamed Bean Curd Roll 鮮竹捲 - Ham Sui Gok (Fried Glutinous Rice Savory Dumplings) - Xiaolongbao (Shanghai Soup Dumplings) - Ha Cheung (Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls) - Lo Mai Gai (Sticky Rice Lotus Leaf Wraps) - Dan Tat (Egg Custard Tarts - Mini) The Chinese server was friendly and promptly brought us our dim sum from next door's (Legend Seafood) kitchen. At times, service was slow but probably due to the server having to shuttle dim sum from next door's kitchen. The flavors, textures and preparation quality were good. Prices were less expensive in comparison to other nearby restaurants. Tasty, prepared well and good value for dim sum in Honolulu Chinatown..we'll be back.

Dimsum in Honolulu's Chinatown... We heard that there's a new chef or owner here, so we eagerly gathered together to check it out! On an early Saturday morning, some of us parked in metered parking stalls on the street while others parked in the paid municipal lots or the Chinese Cultural Plaza structure. The doors opened promptly at 8am and we were seated right away. We ordered our favorites without looking at a menu. Shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, mochi rice, chicken feet, hom sui gok, XLB, Shrimp cherng funn, and don tot (custard tarts) were among the selection. The odd thing was that our server left Won Kee Restaurant and returned with trays of steamed dimsum baskets. I was told that she got the food from Legends Restaurant next door. Some of our group commented that our food wasn't (temperature) hot. Hmmm... Others stated that we were getting Legends Restaurant (quality) dimsum at Won Kee prices... lol! Either way, it was a great breakfast for me! I enjoyed dining with my friends at a reasonable price!

The Mongolian beef was great

Just to be fair, this place is in the midst of Chinatown Cultural Center, and a long time lease holder. While others are reinventing themselves, Won Kee putters along and offers tired uninspired cuisine. Dim sum is not a strong point, but it's quick, unfettered and safe. Get your siu mai, chicken feet, har gow, wu gok taro fix, and parking validation, then be gone. Adjectives: Reheated, soiled, grimy, can leave you halfway filled before taking a sip of tea. Apparently they can shine at night when the A team arrives. But they lost me at: "uh dude, don't look behind you right now. "

It's been ages since I've dined at Won Kee Seafood Restaurant, as I wanna say the last time I stepped into this restaurant was probably in the early 2000's, like 2005 or so? I've never come here for lunch, but have dined here with my family for a dinner in the past. I don't know why, but I found it to be pretty strange that I've never come back here to eat at Won Kee until today. A childhood friend of mines had called me up for a get together for some dim sum a few weeks back, so upon getting to pick da dim sum joint, I told him that I wanted to eat at "Won Kee Seafood Restaurant". I'm so glad I came back here, as I must say I had a very positive dining experience! Where is Won Kee Seafood Restaurant located? Well, if you go to the Chinese Cultural Plaza, you can find Won Kee Seafood restaurant just next door from the famous Legend Chinese Restaurant. The Won Kee Seafood restaurant is pretty spacious, definitely not fancy, but they sure do serve up some ono dim sum items. For our dim sum grindz today, we ordered the following items - 1. Custard tarts (Dan Tat) - Automatic..........cuz you know Bruddah Fran! 2. Har Gow (2 baskets) - I was impressed at how much shrimp they stuffed into the dumplings! Very generous portions! 3. Shu Mai - I don't eat pork, but my friend easily put down the entire basket. 4. Steamed Beef Ball - Pretty large da meat ball........I didn't indulge as I quit red meat 3 years ago. 5. Seafood Dumpling - A new item! Excellent.........I think it had shrimp, & crab. 6. Mochi Rice in Lotus Leaf - Loved it! 7. Seafood Roll in Tofu Skin - Another winner! Flavors were on point, and the service was excellent! We arrived early (around 10:00 AM) for a late breakfast/early lunch as I had to catch the last half of da Minnesota Vikings game! Ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah I know da Vikings suck! Lol! Price here were pretty reasonable, as we had ordered double orders of dim sum items, and after polishing off our meal, we still had some extras food to take home. For the amount of food we ordered, I would say it was pretty reasonable, as I paid about $31.00 and some change (not including tip). Not bad at all! I will definitely come back here real soon to try more dim sum items, and not wait so long! Looking for some ono dim sum? Check out Won Kee Seafood Restaurant my friends!

Food was not well cooked. Service was just okay. The thing disgusted me the most was tip was pre-added to my check. Consider others if you still have a choice.
