Currently writing this as I am waiting for my food because yes it took longer to get my food and tab than writing this review. My friend and I frequent Genki Sushi often, especially the Waikele location.

Arrived here and scanned the QR code to join the waitlist at 6pm. We were seated by 6:02, wow fast!

We both placed our order at around 6:05pm. First 2 items of my friend’s order (Spam Nigiri, Deep Fried California) came at 6:10pm. First round of my order (Deep Fried Spicy Roll) came at 6:35pm. Ended up ordering something else (Garlic Salmon Nigiri) at 6:30pm and it came 2 mins after my first order came. My friend ordered an agedashi tofu at 6:30pm and it still did not come…really that long for fried tofu?

Our served talked to us once to seat us and then to get our drink orders. She placed the 2 waters in front of my friend for her to pass to me even though we were seated at the counter. Then we were not checked in with ever again despite my friend and I continuously looking at the “train” to see if our orders were going to be loaded. By 7pm, we got up from our seat to pay our check at the front (because no one came to help us). We let the hostess who helped us checkout know that we were waiting 30 mins for our tofu but did not receive it so we asked to cancel that from the check…and no, she did not say sorry for that (as expected).

I will not be returning to Genki Sushi Kapolei nor recommending this location to anyone. The only plus was that our food tasted as it usually does. However, do not come here. Skip this location and go to another one if you’re dying for Genki Sushi or if you’re craving sushi just go elsewhere to save your time and your money.

Why we couldn't get a spam order for my son who was still hungry lol just say u can't do it. They took it off right away, didn't even ask if we still wanted it or take it togo. Don't waste my precious lunch break waiting for something u know we aren't getting. SO yes I took it out the tip. Do better. Is this something the cooks like to do? Not do one last orders?

We ordered udon for pickup and received a bowl with less than 10 noodles, with it barely filling up less than half the bowl. The edamame we ordered was cold straight from the fridge. Portions were tiny but food is delicious.

We waited 30 mins for our food to have old nori, old tempura, and overly salted fries.
Only interaction we had was at seating, ordering our drinks. No checking on us during our wait or after we finally received our food. On top of that we witnessed an employee shout over everyone in the restaurant “we have other locations!” Not really a welcoming vibe.

Life of Rolly

It’s been a long time since I last visited Genki Sushi — probably not since before COVID — and I have to say, I really miss the old setup. Back then, part of the fun was sitting down and watching all the different sushi plates pass by on the conveyor belt. You could just grab whatever caught your eye, and the color-coded plates made it easy (and kind of exciting) to keep track of how much you were spending. It had a casual, lively atmosphere that made it feel like more than just a quick meal — it was an experience.

This time around, things felt pretty different. Instead of the conveyor belt, you now scan a QR code at your table to order everything through your phone. Once you place your order, a little “tram” — kind of a mini bullet train — zips your food out to your table. It’s definitely a cool concept, and I can see why people like it, but it also makes the experience feel more automated and less personal. There’s barely any interaction with the staff anymore, which makes it feel a little sterile compared to how it used to be.

As for the food, it’s about what I remember — decent, affordable sushi that’s good for a quick bite but not necessarily something to rave about. The menu still has a wide variety, and prices are reasonable for what you get. Everything came out fresh and on time, and the service (what little there was) was friendly enough.

Overall, Genki Sushi is still a fun, casual place for a simple sushi meal, especially if you’ve never been before and want to try the tram delivery system. But for those who remember the old days with the conveyor belt and color-coded plates, it’s just not quite the same. It’s worth a stop if you’re nearby and craving sushi, but I wouldn’t call it a must-do while visiting Hawaii.

Great place to eat. The service at the time I went was awesome. The server made sure that the waters were topped off.

Food okay. Reservations would be nice. Gramps out sitting in the hot sun just not a preference. Simple make an appointment keep appointment. Way too easy. Picking up grandpa from a medical emergency out front of Genkai now that’s NOT so simple. Ambulance out front people wondering about the food. Just took an old guy to the hospital.

We went here with our daughter and we loved it. The portions are mostly bite sized and come on a conveyor belt. The service is fast and the food is delicious. Next time we are in Oahu we’ll definitely be going back!

It was a great way to end our day of shopping. That night we walked in with 4 adults and 1 six year old and honestly my family members are Hawaiians so obviously their more on the heftier side so its hard to fit us all in 1 both even with just 4 of us lol but we played up to the host expecting to check in and wait but luckily we were taken to a table right away. We noticed that their was alot of families there so it was a bit loud but that kind of at home dinner with the family loud. No one's yelling but everyone's laughing hysterically. I like the ordering on your phone its so convenient the what time is surprisingly fast and my daughter loves the train. Even though we ordered thru the phone the waitress was very attentive to us and I completely enjoyed our dinner. We definitely will travel the extra distance to eat here regularly

this place sucks. spicy tuna roll is completely different than the picture. barely any tuna in our roll. in the picture we show our spicy tuna roll compared to the one on the menu. no salt on the edamame too. asked for two tables for a group of six, was then led to one table where all of us crammed in. We were then told we had a second table which was the table across from us. Would of been nice to have been told that before we embarassed ourselves cramming together. The tables were across from each other instead of back to back making it impossible to talk to the group without shouting. Wanted to have a nice family dinner but we couldnt even talk as a whole. then we saw another group sat back to back so they could talk.

Waiting for almost 30 minutes for a table and got sat down which was not the problem here. And not even 10 minutes passed before I was asked if I was done yet and wanted my check. 10 minutes 10. Keep in mind we just finished ordering our food and was still eating the small things we got first. Not only did that ruin my night which I paid almost 100$ for. But it seems like they do this a lot because when I asked if they normally do this they looked confused and said no but they had two servers laughing the whole time watching me talk to the girl at the counter. Feeling rushed after coming to this location for sometime now is wild to me. Very inconsiderate and rude not to mention very very disrespectful and unprofessional behavior.

i was under impression that this place was a revolving sushi restaurant like it used to be. i guess covid took that away. so if you’re looking for that type of sushi place, this isn’t it. sadly , i can’t recommend this place
there are better place around just keep looking. heck, don don donki next door has some delicious pre made sushi and relatively inexpensive.
