We were initially greeted very warmly and even took part in a welcoming ceremony, which was a nice touch. However, we were not informed that each Kava shot would cost 13 Dollars, and we only realized this when the bill arrived at the end. It felt misleading, and we were disappointed that this important detail was not communicated upfront. The ambiance is nice, but the Kava drink itself is quite acquired in taste. Would have appreciated more transparency regarding the pricing.

After following the best dump truck driver of Maui on the road back from Hana that resulted in the fastest trek yet (shout out to you šŸ«¶šŸ¼). We wanted to celebrate with a cocktail and stumbled into Aumakua Kava Lounge. First time experiencing a kava lounge. We were welcomed with very receptive staff and a knowledgeable run through of the menu. A ceremonious toast and lovely drinks to follow. A wonderful experience. Would not hesitate to stop in again.

Bartender Trey was so friendly and knowledgeable. He taught us a lot about kava that we didn’t know even after attending traditional Hawaiian awa ceremonies in years past. My husband and I visited on August 5, 2024. We ordered a single small bowl of the Vanuatu and talked story for about an hour with Trey and the other customers. I don’t think most customers will believe the extreme claims of the kava-haters. However, as a small business owner myself, I can sympathize with how unhinged reviews still hurt. I would unreservedly recommend this place to all, especially those like me who don’t usually feel comfortable at bars that serve alcohol. The lounge and its people are warm and inviting and freely share aloha and that local, family feeling, which shows they know the meaning of aumakua.

Wonderful place to cap off a great tour. We were welcomed like family to experience of first kava, and we loved it.

We walked in thinking this was a bar that served alcohol, they don’t. We started talking to the server Brandon and he explained what it was and more. Its an awesome experience It’s BETTER than we thought. Definitely something to put on your list.

1st time there, loved the kava. Did not get offered my local discount or a warm welcome honestly to begin or introduced to the menu. yet I'll be back since the kava was delicious and they have a happy hour. When I'm paying $24 for a drink, I would appreciate impeccable service! Come on aumakua, I'll give ya another chance.

I’m so glad we stopped in here on our visit to Maui. Though we’re typically kratom drinkers, we had a shell of Hawaiian Kava with our lovely kavatender and I’m so glad we did - it tasted so wonderful and the effects were lovely! The mixed drinks here were to die for. All the ingredients are local and made in-house, and the mocktails are so creative and taste incredible. Loved everything from the drinks to the style of the little spot and the fantastic service! Do yourself a favor and stop in, you won’t regret it!

Step on in to Paia’s biggest scam. If you’ve never had kava they insist on you buying several shots, and also charge you for the shots that the ā€œbartenderā€ drinks. Overall it tastes pretty bad and doesn’t at all compare to alcohol.
