Come here immediately after hiking for the biggest sandwich you can fathom. Extremely well made, family owned, and a relaxing outdoor dining experience. We got there late so there weren’t too many bread choices, but it didn’t matter. If you like a nice lunch sandwiches and a cold drink, this should be your stop after visiting the park.
This place would be four stars elsewhere, but on Hawaii near Volcanoes National Park it’s a clear five because this is an expensive touristy area with service that is sometimes rushed and impersonal. The young 5’1ish woman behind the counter was exceptionally friendly and kind. The ambiance is casual with outdoor seating under an awning and world maps where you can pin your home location. The food is an excellent value for the area, with generously packed fresh-ingredient...
Not too many spots open early or have vegetarian options. At least here we were able to get a decent veggie sandwich and hot cocoa for breakfast and portion size was generous too. Our feedback is that it would be great if they could add a toasted sandwich option and an espresso machine but whatever we tried was decent enough .
