We had a 7p reservation and didn't get sat until 7:30p in an unfavorable location even though there was a group of the same number of ppl that got sat before us and weren't even waiting long and they got sat near the windows. The ambiance inside was not worth the prices so we ended up leaving before ordering.
We were pleasantly surprised by our experience at Roy's. Reviews we read weren't great but we have to say our meals were very good. We weren't hungry enough for mains, but we both started with a Caesar salad which was better than most. I had the BBQ ribs appetizer, which was more than enough food for a meal and my wife had the seared Ahi tuna starter which was delicious. We'd go back again.
Super disappointed in the kids app-the quesadilla was rock hard! Poor service Orzo awful Mia Tai awful
The Caesar Salad was more sophisticated and tasty than any I have ever had. The Pacific Swordfish was unlike any I had ever had on the East Coast. Tender, flavorful. I wish we could get it at home. You'll love your dinner here.
We had a wonderful experience at this location, from the friendly hostess who checked us in to the warm, charming bartenders (Nicole & Cameron) who knew the menu inside & out & made great recommendations. Highly recommend visiting this location! Start at the bar for Aloha Hour & then move on to dinner.
Pro's: Complimentary bday dessert was heavenly Chicken wings were amazing Decent: Scallops Not so great: Shrimp and ribs dish Black garlic focaccia Service was decent yet needs improvement
I ordered the “Misoyaki Butterfish” and it was delicious. It came with Sizzling Soy | Bok Choi | Forbidden Rice. I also ordered a cocktail called “Kohala Kooler” Kuleana Nanea Rum | Yuzu Curacao Lime Juice Orgeat | Strawberry & Guava After all this, I ordered a dessert.
Can't say enough good things about this place. Great food, great service and lot's of new and exciting things on the menu. Brandon is doing a great job with this restaurant and should be recognized for it.
My wife and I are full-time Big Island residents and dine at Roy's almost weekly. Roy's has one of the island's most creative head chefs (Tyler). In addition to Roy's standard menu, chef Tyler has nightly specials which are always inventive and tasty. For example, last night my wife had Tyler's Easter prix fixe menu; it was absolutely delicious! Roy's kitchen always delivers some of the islands most appetizing food. The food is always plated beautifully and served hot. Additionally, there is a fabulous kid's meal for families with children.
Aaron is a fabulous waiter. Arnie is a wonderful friendly manager.. Jen is an amazing sous chef who always takes care of us. We love Roy's and go there for every birthday and special occasion. Good drinks. Good people. Good food.

Had a great experience at Roy's. My first visit to this one. We have one in Las Vegas that I have been to. The cocktails were wonderful, Mai Tai and another specialty drink I can't remember the name of. A bit disappointed in two of the food items. The poke nachos were so spicy, I couldn't eat them. The Butterfish had a profoundly wild/fishy taste that made it inedible. I had not had butterfish before, so maybe that's just the way it tastes. In either case, I would have liked a warning. We had the MacNut blondie for dessert and it was amazing!
Good was slow and subpar. The food was overpriced for what it was and its quality, even by Hawai'i standards. The kitchen was glacial in its pace, leaving the servers to constantly come out and let you know the food was coming, even when it wasn't. Stay my away.
Entrees were phenomenal! Both the Shrimp and Snapper as the Crab Topped Scallops were among the best dishes we've ever had. The management was visible on the floor and very concerned about food quality. Only negatives were the noise and the fact after needing to preorder dessert of pineapple upside down cake due to baking time it arrived cold.
Roy had a bad night. Absolute confusion. Our waiter asked us at least four times what we ordered (and kept asking if it was what the table next to us actually ordered). Food took forever, wine took forever, had to repeatedly remind the waiter what we were waiting for. The spring roll appetizer was good. My wife's whitefish (Ono) was excellent, but had hair in it. My short ribs were frankly awful--dried up, no flavor, not sure it was even rib. We got our check timely, but the table next to us waited at least 45 minutes. Our group of tables had time to bond. We actually had a lot of fun, but because it was so ludicrously bad. All that said, I think the server and the kitchen just had a bad night and it kept snowballing. Probably not the norm.
The entire dining experience was amazing! The wine, appetizers, entrees', and dessert were all tasty and fantastic. The seasoned edamame to start was a nice touch. The service was even better. Our wait team of Keali'i and Justin went above and beyond to ensure we had the best dinner service. You could tell they were experienced in their craft and feel the genuine Aloha. The General Manager Arnie even came over and had a welcoming conversation with us. He's funny and made us laugh. We had dinner at all the Kohala Coast restaurants with awesome ocean views during our trip but none of them will be as memorable as our Roy's Waikoloa experience. We will definitely return when we come back to Hawaii.
