The Ornery Chicken

Limp fries. I asked for no bacon and they gave me bacon. My friend said his sandwich was just okay. There are much better places. No reason to return.

Ankeny’s hidden chicken gem. This take out only is delicious. Every bite has you wanting more. From the chicken sandwiches to the tater tots with chicken, bacon, and jalapeños to the sidewinder fries, everything on the menu is amazing. This is a must eat joint.

Food portions are excellent. Chicken was juicy and I really liked the sidewinder fries.
Slightly disappointing that the sandwiches we ordered had maybe a tablespoon of coleslaw on them. And if there was any spicy mayo at all, it was not enough to notice or taste.
I like the idea of a virtual kitchen, however, anyone who is familiar with fried foods knows that they don't hold up (or stay crispy) for long, especially when transported in a container to eat 10-15 minutes later.
If you did want to truly showcase this style of food in the best way, a sit-down restaurant would be the way to go. Or possibly even a spot at the state fair, or a food truck. Just food for thought.

No option for inside service.

The best wings. Consistent every time. Also had the ornery tots and different sandwiches. All delicious! It’s quickly becoming a weekly stop for us.

Good and fresh

Wings were decent, but the skin was rubbery, not crisp fried like advertised. Fries were good. Chicken sandwich tasted like burnt dirty oil. Definitely better chicken places out there.

Plain smoked wings with ranch dressing are the best I've had by far. Have had the various chicken sandwiches a well, but keep getting the wings. Intense smoke flavor and their ranch is better than my homemade, and I make really good ranch. Great service and easy pickup. Hard to beat for a quick takeout meal!

3/12/25 I ordered delivery and my order was the Breaded chicken breast with sidewinder fries and baked potato salad.
The chicken sandwich was a bit dry even with sauce.They give you what seemed like a pound of fries. The baked potato salad was very good. I will try something different the next time.

Doesn't matter if this place has dine in or not! The food for sure speaks for itself. Whoever says the smoked wings aren't smoked at all, their taste buds are on drugs hands down some of the best smoked wings I have ever had! Ranch hand sandwich absolutely amazing! Chicken a 10 ranch a 10 sidewinder fries 10. Raising Cane's is year old garbage compared to this place! Keep it up! We will for sure be back!

I don’t know what’s going on with this place it use to be good now it’s not! The first time it went bad for me i got raw chicken sandwich 🤮 which when i texted them they refund then try them again and got boneless wings. They were smaller then popcorn chicken also have to pay extra for ranch for wings i paid For 2 only got 1 i guess That’s whatever since the wings were so small didn’t need 2. Then went one more time for a sandwich, got the homestyle was so bland. It comes with a good sauce it was on one bite of my sandwich that’s it. I wont ever come back again

Really good food, was in town for training and instructor told me about this place!!! You have to order online and pay online and they bring food out to your car! There is no eat in or dine in area!! With that being said food was delicious and the hot honey isn’t very hot, but it is very tasty In flavor!! I do recommend this place but you have to go back somewhere to eat!
