Absolutely horrific care and treatment by Dr. Benjamin Tallman, in-patient therapy. Instead of providing care, comfort, and consultation, he caused traumatic emotional distress through interrogation, cherry picking information and making false accusations that could cause irreparable harm. This was a demonstrable experience and we will be following up with an ethics and professional practice complaint.

Very nice coffee shop inside of St. Luke's Hospital. It's open early and also very late which is extremely helpful to the staff who are here at all hours. Jean is an amazing barista. The coffees she makes are always perfect. She and I even came up with a concoction together. A Raspberry Espresso Fizz. In a large cup, she makes an Espresso Fizz with only 1 scoop of vanilla powder base, and 1 pump of raspberry syrup. It quenches my thirst as well as fulfills my caffeine needs. The coffee here is of superior quality. I'm extremely happy to have a good coffee shop nearby, and there are even happy hour specials every day!

Just had surgery at this hospital and while the surgery went well, some of the nursing staff were verbally abusive towards me, lack of nursing care & I felt bullied by their actions. I will NEVER stay at this hospital again.

I was in ER. There were no other patients , but it took them hours to admit me. When I asked the receptionist she said they all beds open except one or two. Like what the hell? Nurses didn't do anything, not even getting me a cup of ice. The doctor did everything, even adjusting my chair. When I rang the help button nothing happened.

Boyfriend cut his finger on buzz saw and it took over an hour to see a PA (Jeremy was excellent) for stitches, meanwhile he's sweating bullets and they won't even give us water for him to drink to cool down. Everyone working besides the PA was incredibly cold as well with zero charm or smiles to lighten the mood, especially after the very long wait. Will not be returning.

I went to the ER and received really great care. The problem is with their handling of the billing. The ER doctors did not submit their bill to insurance so I had to pay all of it out of pocket and now have to deal with my insurance to get reimbursed. It's typical to get the bill and then you wait until insurance handles it, but in this case, they never submitted it to insurance. When I resubmitted my insurance information to them, all I got was an email several weeks later saying that they had sent my bill to a collection agency. My credit score is over 800 - I am not someone who doesn't pay my bills. All of this could have been avoided if I could have talked to a person about the bill instead of being directed to online forms and people who are only authorized to take my payment. Do yourself a favor and go to Mercy.

Spent 6 hours in the ER with my pregnant girlfriend over 90 mins of which were after all tests had been administered, waiting on someone to come go over the test results with us, finally a doctor showed up for maybe 3 mins at which point nd basically said nothing except that they were refering to a different physician, since at this point we had been sitting in a cold hospital room for almost 5 hours, since my girlfriend was very hungry by this point we asked if we could just be discharged and have the hospital call later with info. The doctor refused, stating she wanted us leaving with a appointment scheduled and said she would return in 3 minutes. 45 minutes later a nurse finally showed up and actually went over the test results with us (which is illegal) and finally gave us the discharge papers and told us to call to schedule a appointment ourselves.

Care and attention after you have been cleared of major health issues is zero. My sister was admitted for 2 days with heart problems but on the 3rd day when she is to be released, the doctor takes all day to give orders for release to the nurses. But before 8 am that same morning, the doctor told the patient she could go home shortly. it is hard to believe that release orders take so long to communicate.

UnityPoint Urgent Care Hiawatha and St. Luke's Hospital are useless! My husband has been sick for nearly 3 weeks. We go to urgent care and the doctor does blood and urine. We get a call 2 hours later and they say he has elevated white blood levels in both. Dr. says he believes there is an infection. They tell him to go to St. Likes hospital for more tests. 5 HOURS later they send him home with the diagnoses, gastrointestinal pain, THAT IS NOT A DIAGNOSES %@$ HEADS! THAT IS A SYMPTOM! $100 co-pay that had to be paid upfront + billed doctor bills to have them tell us that his stomach hurts. No antibiotics were prescribed, you simply tried to pump him full of morphine and get rid of him. This was not quality care, it was an assembly line. That is the worst care I have ever heard of! Have been trying to call URGENT CARE for over 30 minutes this morning to at least get him antibiotics. Phone just rings and no one answers. I am done UnityPointless! You are a horrible health system. You made it obvious you care more about costing us money than finding the root cause of his ailment.

Impressed with the efficient, thorough, and kind care I received this morning when I went in with an injured foot! Visiting from out of state and didn't know what to expect. Great care!

My sister was admitted with ketoacidosis secondary to diabetes. She was vomiting for hours in the ER with a blood sugar in the upper 300's. She was given fluids for dehydration, and an insulin drip was recommended but never started in the Er because she was suppose to be moved to critical care. My family was informed it would take an hour to get her room cleaned then she could be transferred. She was left in the ER for over 7 hours during which time her blood pressure alarm continuously went off and her BP was over 200. She was short of breath and the nurse simply instructed her to control her breathing because she was just hyperventilating. Hours later after she was moved to ICU and she was still short of breath with a grossly high blood pressure, labs were drawn which confirmed she had elevated cardiac enzymes and had, had a heart attack. She sat in the Er having a heart attack and did not receive any care for the myocardial infarct of her ketoacidosis, until she was moved to ICU, almost 8 hours after she arrived at the ER. The insulin drip ordered by the doctor for her ketoacidosis was not started for 8 hours. She had to have 3 stents placed in her heart over the next two days. She was moved within a couple of hours from ICU, because her bed was needed, to the cardiac wing. Where is the care? I understand an ER is busy and there are many critical patients, but when a blood pressure is 200/130 and the alarm is ignored for hours, that is gross neglect. My mother and my sister were both treated with disrespect by the nurse who seemed annoyed to be helping her, telling her to breath through her heart attack, dismissing it as anxiety. My sister does not have insurance, so maybe that is why her care was so substandard. Lack of insurance should not be a reason to withhold treatment for life threatening illnesses. She could have died due to neglect and her body underwent hours of unnecessary stress which will likely extend her hospital stay, hence the bill. I doubt 8 hours of neglect, while she was having a heart attack, vomiting continuously in a ketoacidotic crisis will lengthen her life to any degree. She did eventually receive care, but if the goal of an emergency room is to treat emergency or emergent illnesses this one is far below the expected standard.

Very nice ER! The staff is very helpful and understanding and do everything they can to get you in to see a doctor as soon as possible. This trip for me to the ER was to see if I actually had insects and spider bites while I was down in Mexico, good thing I went! Because it turned out that I had a staff infection, (MRSA) I go back tomorrow for another Ive. I should be all better after that, they cut me open and drained the two areas, one on my thigh and one on my elbow, they packed the two areas and now I'm on the right medication and I'm feeling better!
