The food was amazing, and the flavors mixed together with the food textures were incredible. It was everything you'd want from a traditional Japanese restaurant. My husband and I went there for our anniversary, and we were pleased by everything and everyone. The server was friendly and really helpful, and we appreciated her attention to our table. We loved the quiet atmosphere and how relaxing the place was too. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary celebration meal that was top-notch!
Parking: It’s downtown Des Moined, and all of the nearby parking around the block was paid. The parking was inexpensive.

Sat at the sushi bar after ordering for 20 minutes, we were the only people in the restraint and the sushi “chef” sat there not making our order talking to two people about a personal problem love watching someone not do their job

Have not been in a couple of years. The food was incredibly delicious- as it always has been! Sauces and dressings are amazing, produce is flavorful and fresh. The sushi was amazing.
However, the ambience and level of caringness seemed to have declined a bit. The walls had unfinished wood boarding up the sides and no decor. I remember they used to have small candles on the tables and soft music but there was none of that. Our server would stop by with our items but rush off before I could ask for anything else (like utensils, etc). A few easy changes would help this restaurant out tremendously, but no one seemed to notice or care.

I usually go here because its my favorite place to eat, went on my sister in laws and my birthday which has become tradition, something had burnt in their kitchen it was so bad that my eyes were burning so bad i could barely open them. It was miserable. Went their today to take my husband out for his birthday, I was eating my sushi roll, it fell apart before I got it in my mouth, i noticed something shiny in the piece the fell apart on the plate, it was a piece of plastic, i told the waitress, she said she would tell the chef, nothing,no apology, no discount, nothing. I would expect at least an apology. But nothing. I dont think I'll be visiting again. Pretty sad.

Use to really love this place it was a little hole in the wall the owner ran himself. Food was always fresh they didn't play loud music and they were always open. This past year it's gone down hill so much they're always out of everything the waitress ignores you is a total air head you don't even get your appetizers BEFORE your main dish the music blares so loud I can't think and the owner is never here anymore

Delicious and served beautifully! We really enjoy stopping here for a fresh made and quickly served meal. Very reasonably priced for what you’re getting.

I love the food, but the number of times I've tried to go there for lunch and found the door locked is getting too high. There are other sushi places in town that are able to keep to there posted hours. If it's not something you can manage then reduce your hours. Or if they are incorrectly posted then update them. Akabono for now.

Waitstaff very friendly & helpful.Half of the beverages on menu not available (including pop). 7 in our party, 3 hot dishes ordered, 1 was almost ice cold/inedible, 1 was warm, 1 was hot. Some of the Sushi ordered was fishy. Of the 3 appetizers ordered, 2 were good and appropriate temperature (but came out very late), the spring rolls were cold, greasy, tough & chewy.Waitstaff agreed to remove one of the dinners, but we didn’t see that reflected on the tab.Again, waitstaff very nice! We were just really disappointed as this was a birthday celebration.

I went there twice when I was in town. The first time I had miso soup and vegetarian sushi for lunch and that was 5/5. I went again after 2 days for dinner and the vegetarian sushi wasn't as good as the first time, still not bad at all!

It was very warm in the restaurant - almost to the point where I wanted to leave because it was stuffy. There were 5 items on the menu we tried to order and couldn’t: 2 they were out of and 3 they said they no longer make/carry. Our food came out of order. Our sushi rolls arrived and then the miso soup and an appetizer. And then when we were almost finished eating, the other appetizer. The gyoza were burned on the bottom - a couple of them really badly. The miso soup tasted watered down like it either had no or very little miso in it. The amount of wasabi given with our sushi was very little. I don’t use much but ran out. When we got the bill I saw I was charged for a California King Crab roll but only ordered the California roll. I didn’t even know the California King Crab roll existed and the roll we get didn’t seem any different than a regular California roll. The King Crab California was $17.50 and the California $7.45. She didn’t offer to reimburse us for the price difference and I didn’t push it because I already felt bad we let her know about the other items that weren’t right. The server was nice and they did let us sit at the table by the window. My boyfriend said Miyabi 9 had been his favorite sushi restaurant in the area but this evening just wasn’t a good experience.

I was surprised because I didn't expect to be able to eat proper Japanese food in a regional American city.
If I ever go to Des Moines again, this is one of the stores I would definitely like to visit.
