Masao is hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Iowa. The sushi is on another level, easily the freshest ingredients you’ll find anywhere around here. You can truly taste the quality in every bite.

While visiting friends in Iowa, we tried the Omakase experience at Masao we sat at the sushi counter. Watching the chef prepare each dish was fantastic. He shared wonderful stories about his culinary journey, his passion for sushi, the inspiration behind his creations, and how he sources ingredients. From the server, to the starters, all the way through dessert, by far and away the best meal we've had in Des Moines is some time. Elevated, without the pretentiousness, and amazing flavor/texture with each dish. We love Masao. (Chef made his rounds during dinner and clearly cares about his work!)
