First time at a&m. food and service were great. A bit run down and really dark inside due to the very high original ceilings. Will go again for lunch next time?

Took my new wife there for her first time and we enjoyed it. It's a unique place. Could use some sprucing up (though I did notice a couple new doors up front),but the food was excellent and the service was good.

Food here has really been going downhill in past years...ordered chicken fried steak breakfast; the meat was hot and crispy, but it was covered with barely warm gravy that had no flavor, the toast was stale and eggs were over cooked. To say the coffee was weak is quite an understatement, the server recognized this as a known issue.

Biscuits were hard and dry, gravy was inedible and the eggs tasted more like the pan than eggs.

You know how you sometimes stumble upon a little breakfast diner where the food is a revelation? Everything is made from scratch, the eggs are hand gathered at a farm a mile away and the recipes feature subtle seasoning? Well, this isn't that place. A & M is a place where beefy retired guys gather to hold court, celebrating unchallenging food and affordable coffee in a sort of windowless storeroom. And that's just fine. The staff is cheerful. The prices are reasonable. And my breakfast was okay.
