El Cascabel is the best Mexican food in Grinnell. The have a variety of dishes. Their menu has a mix of vegetarian, beef, chicken, pork, and seafood options. There are also several options for beverages. The horchata is my favorite but it seperates quickly so make sure to drink it fast.
The service is good and the staff is attentive. The chips are delicious, but the salsa is nothing fancy. I always ask for the to bring me a spicer salsa and mix it in with the first salsa.
Lastly, El Cascabel is right next to a perpendicular railroad intersection. The first one I have ever see. It is quite the experience when a train goes by especially if you are seated at the Southeast corner of the restaurant.
Kid-friendliness: Big restaurant with a lot of space.

We just found our favorite Mexican restaurant!! The service was top notch. Our waiter was super friendly and kept joking around with our children. One was having a birthday, so he brought out the sombrero and dessert. She was very thrilled. ?
The food was fantastic. Their salsa was very good!
We got guacamole Mexicana and it was the best I have had in a long time. The ingredients were cut perfect.
Our meals were hot, fresh, tasted wonderful. Rice was very tender and delicious. Portions are good sized.
Prices are comparable with other restaurants. Beautiful dining areas and a large bar.
So glad we found this restaurant!

Authentic Mexican food located in the former Grinell Union historical train depot ? The building is absolutely beautiful. Everything structure wise (*brick and wood*) located to the left of the main entrance is all original. Exterior is just as beautiful as the interior. Plenty of seating options available, such as: table, booth, bar, and outdoor patio. Fully stocked bar. Loved the train track views. Huge selection of food options from traditional Mexican to pasta and steak. Loved all the historical pictures and train memorabilia. We ordered queso, Taquitos mexicanos, and the shrimp ranchero. Everything was delicious. Our food arrived in what felt like 10 minutes, use of fresh ingredients, and temperature hot. Service was just as amazing! Overall, great food in a beautiful building with huge character! Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ worthy!

My quesadilla was packed with shredded beef, so I could hit my brother that the name of the restaurant indicated what was in the quesadilla.

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon because the restaurant we had planned to go to wasn’t open yet. What a great find! Friendly staff, very good food at fair prices and a beautiful building! We ate outside on their patio which was also very nice. I would put this on the top of my list when in Grinnell!
We got stuck in Grinnell because our car broke down. I am so glad we did! This restaurant is delicious! I am from So Cal and I have eaten a lot of Mexican food. The Chile Verde was undoubtedly the best I have ever had!! Plenty of flavor, perfectly balaced with the pork. Amazing!!
Sorry, no photo. I dug in too fast!
