“Halfway through a bikeride, stumbled across Fenceline. Turned out to be an excellent place to stop. The beers were great the food was excellent, there was no so-so or low spot. Service was friendly, helpful and there when you needed them. Biking back to the patio at Feneline soon.”

“The food was great. I tried a margarita and it was a little heavy on the mix. I prefer table chips warm, but these were still crispy. It would have been nice to be told that we needed to go up to the register to pay. You don't see the register when you come in because it's tucked on the side of the door out of the way. I really enjoyed the tamales.”

“Ames is so lucky to have this wonderful bakery here on Main Street! We especially like the multi grain and traditional rye breads, and we are just starting to try their cakes and pastries. Everything we have had is delicious and the quality you would find in a fine European pastry shop. We split a piece of the Kyiv cake for dessert this evening, and it was excellent. Highly recommended!”

“Excellent BBQ place! The smell alone is divine! We spent Valentine’s Day here for lunch! Brisket was so juicy and Omgoodness melt in your mouth tender (without being mushy) hubs devoured huge portion of the Briskey Dipper also 10:10! Jalapeño hush puppies with a spicy aïoli & hallelujah potatoes were nice balance with the meats! Never could eat it all in one meal that just means we’re also enjoying today! So juicy it warms up nicely! Highly recommend can’t wait to go back and try more menu items!”

Between the drink options and the general store merchandise, there is so much to look at; so many new things to try. My go-to was an iced Thai milk tea with boba, but I recently tried the taro milk tea and now I’m hooked lol. This last visit, I had my daughter with me and she asked if they had a regular chocolate shake (they don’t), but the employee that was taking our order was incredibly sweet and helped us pick out something that would work. She made a chocolate banana shake and just omitted the banana, as well as added frozen strawberries on top for my daughter; it was delicious. One of my favorite things to get as well is the matcha mochi; I’m so glad they carry them! Service: Every time we’ve been in, the employees are wonderful. We’re greeted with a smile and positive attitude as well as patience. They are quick and efficient when preparing your order. This last visit, one incredibly sweet employee even came out to give my daughter quarters (from her own wallet) for the claw machine. She most definitely went above and beyond <3 Ambiance: It’s quaint and cozy inside. It’s pretty well organized and kept very clean. There aren’t too many tables to sit at, so it can get crowded if it’s busy, but it never really seems to be an issue. The variety of items available is awesome as well as the large selection of freshly made-to-order drinks. They have frozen items that you’re able to warm up and eat there as well. This is a great little spot for people that want to get some work done also; it’s like a little coffee café, just better. The overall noise level can get a bit elevated, but headphones can easily cancel it out if you’re sitting down inside.”

“We had a wonderful experience at this small Italian pizzeria. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and everything was very clean, including the bathrooms, which I always appreciate. The salad was fresh with crisp, cold lettuce, which was a great start to the meal. We ordered both pizza and pasta, and both were fantastic. The pizza crust was perfectly crisp, just the way it should be. The pasta was outstanding! Honestly the best chicken Alfredo I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was rich, cheesy and delicious. You can really tell they take pride in their food and their restaurant. We’ll definitely be back!”

I also have celiac (gluten free) and my wife has a dairy allergy so finding food in town can be a challenge to say the least. In this context, Lockwood truly felt like an oasis of sorts. I want to sincerely thank them for their work to cultivate the space they have and to thank them for giving me hope for the future of Ames itself. I feel truly seen in a positive way for once!”

“This restaurant is my guilty pleasure food to eat. Pancakes are something I would never go to a restaurant for but OHH!!! These pancakes taste like dessert! Everything I’ve tried has been great. Prices are fabulous. Staff are friendly. Service is quick. Haven’t tried the non-breakfast items but why would you when there’s PANCAKES! Only negative is they aren’t open for dinner during the week. Oh and the coffee drinks are great.”
