this is my favorite restaurant in iowa city. the hamburgers here are just so amazing. the atmosphere is fantastic. and i would die for a pie shake. it cannot be overstated how good this place is.
My wife and I ate here on reopening weekend (10/8/2023).
There was a lengthy wait because the kitchen was running slow due to an issue with their internet and electronic order system that they normally use being down. Not a big deal to me, my wife and I sat and had some coffee and relaxed for a bit while we waited for things to get going.

Can't believe this was my first visit here after going to school here and spending a lot of time in the Iowa City area. Pleasantly surprised they were open on the 4th of July. Our group was greeted at the door by a woman who ended up being our waitress. She was pleasant and had good food suggestions. Hamburg Inn No. 2 is a classic diner with delicious, comfort food that lives up to the hype. The BLT is loaded with tasty bacon and the pie shakes are a must-try, with a slice of pie in a milkshake. The fresh avocado, pulled pork, and crispy hash browns make the visit worthwhile. The free parking is a bonus, and the friendly service adds to the overall experience. The Hawkeye Hog skillet was delicious and the serving size was perfect. There is political history on the walls in the form of article clippings. A great spot that comes highly recommended for a satisfying meal.
