What a great place. Met a young man named Carter last Thursday. He was making jokes as I ordered food, it was a lovely time. I ordered a morning muscle, and it came out perfectly. Keep going young man! Will be visiting Java House again soon!

Salads!

For starters, it’s a very cute spot to eat lunch or have a coffee. We saw many students working while eating/drinking.
On to the food, there is a nice variety of sandwiches you can order from and can watch them be made. We ordered the Italian salami melt and the caprese chicken. Both were very delicious sandwiches. Prices are fair for the quality of ingredients they use.

SO GROSS!!! She just finished taking our cash and coins at the register and punching our order in on their dirty POC wearing gloves …..but then I watch her walk over to grab a handful of the salad to put into a bowl preparing our order! SHE DID NOT CHANGE GLOVES !!!!!! That’s discussing and unsanitary as hell! . These employees should be trained for proper food handling. Then they run out of the one soup when there’s only 3 on the menu…. And they are known for soups and salads! Not coming back here again. GROSS! Where is the health department???

Omg, this is my new favorite lunch in Iowa City ? I can't speak to the service in the restaurant since I used Doordash but WOW, absolutely delicious tomato soup and a perfect sandwich generously loaded with veggies. The soup is definitely made from scratch, and the bread tastes homemade too. So special. Just ordered again because I was craving it ?

I placed my order about an hour and a half before pick up and when I arrived it wasn’t ready. Come to find out it had been made but someone took it. They remade it with chickpeas instead of chicken after I paid extra for chicken. After remaking it again, it wasn’t chopped (how I ordered it) and had large pieces of spinach, tomatoes and chicken. Not sure I’ll be back.

The salad I ordered was decent enough, however I ordered - and was charged for - adding chicken, and received a salad with no chicken. The lettuce looked a little old/browning but was good besides that. Just not worth the $14 I spent.

My wife and I dined in for lunch. We had were served a cold melt sandwich, a salad with chicken added (missing the chicken). It was a long wait and expensive. Employees were responsive and kind. However, wont be back.

Someone said they really wanna like this place and I feels them. Like… why am I waiting 30 min for half a sandwich while witnessing two other orders be prepared right in front of me for people who are not even in the store?! Make it make sense for me. Will not be in a hurry to return at all. Talk to ur staff.

Terrible service. The waits are long and the products inconsistent. My chicken salad had no chicken. My friend had to go next door to Java House to wait in a separate line to order tea.

I love their southwestern melt - it’s excellent. But the management and people are a disaster! I’m not sure how they get away with it. I guess being the only “hip coffee shop” in a small city like Iowa City positions them profitably - but they are careless with orders and lack complete accountability. They systematically keep mistakes with the orders (not caring about the additions/deletions that I make to my order), skipping whole items that I order, giving me random items instead… I kept my peace because what I got was edible and the ordeal of correcting my order or getting refund never seemed to be worth it…Today morning however, I kept on ordering on Doordash and the drivers kept on saying that my order was not ready, was cancelled, or some weird non-sense. When I call, a confident lady tells me a different story - that no driver was there to pick up the order! This kept on happening over and over again over a 2hr period! I guess something snapped in me and I just wanted to get my sandwich!The folks working there, seriously need training on how to operate a business. They are incompetent, unprofessional - possibly they need to go back to high school and complete their GEDs or something because I don’t understand how else people can work at this place. The management needs to go and really work somewhere to see how such businesses should truly operate.They give Iowa City a horrible reputation for allowing such businesses to operate and possibly even be successful.

I doordashed a breakfast sandwich on a bagel and got it on a biscuit. I also ordered tomato soup and got a completely different soup. This has happened multiple times when I order delivery and 50% of the time I receive the wrong items it’s like a gamble. I’m not sure if this means they are out of the item (in which they should have the delivery driver call me) or if they simply gave me the wrong item but it is extremely frustrating.
