Great food BUT we’ve tried FOUR times (we live 1.5 hours away) and every time it’s closed with a sign on the door for one reason or another, even though Google says it’s open. Consistency would be appreciated. Thank you.

We always love eating at this cafe even though it takes some fore thought (as it’s an hour away and only open 11-2). It’s a simple cafe with great food. We seriously had the best ham and potato soup in our life there. Owner popped oust to dining area to chat with us this last time. Really nice family owned business.

If I were to dream of running a restaurant, it would look a lot like Her Soup Kitchen. Limited menu items determined by high quality seasonal ingredients, and sandwiches carefully designed with every ingredient playing a role. Not minimalist, yet simple. Elegant and intensely flavorful. Heck you know the place is good if they are a mainstay restaurant only open 3 hours each day M-F.

We did not realize that they closed at 2 pm, we were passing through and this place looked great for a light lunch. They were extremely rude and remarked under their breath about a sign out front. Sorry, we did not see it or realize that they close early. So, instead of saying they were closed the staff crabbed with each other about us in front of our faces. Won't be coming back or recommending.

Today was the first time I ate here, my sister knew the place and we feel lucky it was open in spite of road work signs and blocks on Dubuque. The GF bread, toasted for the sandwiches, was delicious; best GF bread I've had to date; everything was so fresh, the pesto, spinach, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese; everything was clean and scrumptious! The potato chips make big brand organic kettle chips seem overly processed! Our sandwiches were so tasty my sister and I got a third and split it! I haven't been impressed with a sandwich in a long time! Fantastic food, friendly, welcoming service. And, I am glad it's tucked away a bit away from central downtown.

I've been to HSK five times in the last month. They were only open twice. Both times, I got the cobb salad. Both times, I was blown away by how fresh and delicious it was.They're only open for a hot minute most days. And it's not uncommon for them to be closed because they got a sweet catering gig. Can't fault them for that.Somewhere, I saw that HSK was the top rated restaurant in Iowa City. I can believe it. Real people making real food with real care.Thanks, Barb and company. We'll be back. Often!

So glad we stopped here for lunch today. The owner was lovely, lunch delicious. Crab chowder, chicken salad with delicious dressing and the chicken avacado sandwich. All fresh and we enjoyed all.

One of my favorite places in Iowa City. Not only is the food amazing but I've had the immense pleasure of working with the owner a couple times. My team at work wanted to order lunch for an event we were having and even with short notice the owner made it work. She was so accommodating and helpful! I can't express how much I love this place!
