By the number is good reviews for this restaurant, it's clear that the people that wrote them do not have experience with really good Mediterranean food. At Oasis, the shawarma was dry and poorly spiced. The kafta was dry, overcooked and tasteless. There was no toum (garlic sauce). The pita was ok, but great Mediterranean restaurants make their own. Tahini sauce in s squirt bottle? Don't delude yourselves, Iowa Citians. Demand better. This restaurant won't get my business again.

I live a couple hours away, but every time I come through we HAVE to stop. Their food is always fresh and delicious. Prices are fair and the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. I recommend this place to everyone!

I’ve been eating at Oasis all my life and the food has always been amazing. I feel like over time it’s just gotten better and better. I live a couple hours away now and really appreciate that they sell some of their products in stores. The owners and employees are all super kind and hard working. The hummus and falafel is mind blowing, and the baklava is also just right. i highly recommend stopping in for a bite to anyone who loves fresh tasting food made by good people.

The vegetables were fresh and the food was ok-ish. It's my own fault for not reading their description of what they think a Gyro is. What they served me was not a Gyro, the vegetables were almost there, along with meat thats it. No tzatziki sauce, instead they use humus and added falafel. The sandwich was also built in an odd way. The meat and vegetables were split between the sandwich so for the first half I ate nothing but saturated pita and cucumbers after that it was all very dry meat and two falafel at the very back. I've had doner kebobs while traveling and grew up around a small Greek community in Florida. This sandwich was neither a doner or a Gyro. It was pretty disappointing for how much it was hyped up to me. Either way, not very good I probably will not return. I dont agree with doing obviously very little research on what you should be naming your food. If I order a Gyro I don't expect I should have to read too much into what I'm buying. Staff seemed nice enough I hope they get better as time goes on.

I've been going to oasis since my childhood, and I make sure to stop by whenever I am visiting Iowa city! My go to orders are the falafel pita sandwich and sweet chips!

This place needs some help. I got a gyro sandwich and a side Greek salad. The sandwich was built so strangely. Why is the sauce put into the pita first? You get no sauce until you’re at your last bites. It was very dry because of that. And for $6 the salad was disappointing. Lettuce, cucumbers and olives. And such a small portion. Dressing was good though. The atmosphere is “cheap back room dank”. Tables weren’t clean.

Sorry to report the food has really gone down hill since the last time I was there. Their pita bread was like "white bread" dry and gummy at the same time. I ordered a gyros full size and got very little meat with a filler of two falafels in the bottom. I would of preferred more meat. French fries ordered extra crispy and they came out droppy and lukewarm. Baklava was substandard, dry and no lucious honey dripping from it. And Couscous so,so. I will not go again, sad to say. My food cost $23.50, what a waste! Jo B

Delicious food every time! Great customer service. Definitely try the jalapeño relish & mango curry sauces :)

I purchased a falafel sandwich on the 8th floor of the UIHC cafe. There was no humus and instead, it was filled with plain chick peas and the wrap disintegrated causing a confetti effect of chickpeas falling to the ground. There was no sauce as described. Someone requires training in the kitchen because I know that this wrap is usually quite tasty.

The BEST hummus you'll ever eat........the falafel and gyros are hands-down phenomenal! If you're in Iowa City....you have to stop at Oasis (and don't forget to grab a extra tub of hummus for your home)!

I just discovered this place and I'm so glad I did. In all my years of visiting Iowa City I never knew of this place until another Yelper recently recommended it. My husband and I wanted some place to grab a quick bite to eat for lunch that wasn't too expensive and this definitely was it. It's kind of a hole in the wall and there's not much seating but the food is great. I got a half chicken shawarma sandwich and my husband got a half gyro sandwich. We both loved our sandwiches and thought they were tasty. Neither of us had had a shawarma or gyro sandwich with falafel in it before and we loved it. I have never been that much of a fan of falafel but theirs was really good. I was disappointed that they didn't have tzatziki sauce because that's a staple for me whenever I eat Mediterranean food. But their mango curry sauce was wonderful and made up for the lack of the tzatziki. Their tahini sauce was too runny for me--about the consistency of water. I think if it were just a little thicker it would have been better. The vegetables were chopped into huge pieces and kept falling out of the pita. We would have liked it better if they were diced into smaller pieces. We thought the prices were a little high for the half size sandwich. You can get twice as much for only a couple dollars more with a full sandwich. Next time we would just split a full sandwich because it would cost much less that way. I heard their fries are the best in town so I'll have to try them the next time I'm in town. Im always looking for new places to eat when I come to Iowa City so I'm so happy to have discovered this place.
