Van Bs is absolutely electric! 10/10 would recommend it to anyone. The bartender goes by Toc and always is quick to strike conversation. Really cares for his customers but runs a no nonsense operation. Great food too!
This place has a lot of potential. It's a big space with room for groups, and it's a good spot to watch Iowa games. We ordered a couple appetizers, and they were really good. However, it doesn't appear the bar has a clear focus on what type of crowd they are trying to attract. They are a little farther off campus, so it's seems like a good place for a non college-crowd. Friendly staff, unique fishbowl options but the place reeks of grease from the kitchen. My friend and I have been in a few times and the smell is constantly present. The last time I was in for 1 drink and I had to go home to change my coat because of smell.
