“I used to live in Mason city and now live 2.5hours away, but every time I go to Mason city I have to go to taco tico. Great food, great service, always busy, and responsible prices. I have been to lots of restaurants in my life and alot of restaurants have messed up my order, I have been to taco tico in Mason city plenty of times and they have never messed up on my order.”

“I absolutely adore State Street Deli! My daughter and I often have meetings in the same building, and we always look forward to catching up over a meal at the Deli afterward. Whether it's for a bagel, a sandwich, or just a fountain drink, it's the perfect spot to relax and chat. The prices are fair, the food is delicious, and the staff is both helpful and welcoming. It's truly a fantastic place!”

“We ate here a few times during our stay at the nearby Park Inn Hotel. The food is pretty solid for what you can expect from a new American restaurant. We liked everything we tried. Their sweet potatoes are prime!!! The only thing I didn’t like much was that last time we went we felt rushed all the time by the waitress. Half of the tables were empty, we were trying to finish our wine, and she kept coming every minute to offer us the check ?. Other than that, it’s a very nice place and the patio tables have a great view to the FLW building next door.”

“These two brewers are very skilled. If you love beer, head to Fat Hill ASAP. The ownership and staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable. I’m sorry I didn’t get any pictures, but I was busy enjoying several beers (3 pints and 4 tastes). Well rounded selection of multiple types of beer, and they were all solid.”

“My wife and I stopped in for breakfast. Very good coffee. Great quiche. We also got a dozen box to go. Owner (Niall?) was helpful. Baked good are consistently good except for the oatmeal raisin cookies which may be the best I’ve ever had.”

“Let’s do this by the numbers- 35- The number of years I’ve been working in restaurants. 20- The number of years my friend has been trying to get me to Mason City to try her favorite hometown restaurant. 4- The number of hours we drove, round trip to finally get me to The Northwestern. No other reason to come to Mason, just this restaurant. 1- The ranking of this filet versus any steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant in my life. Perfectly seasoned, melt in your mouth texture, and prompt, no nonsense service. For the sake of clarity and with no trace of hyperbole: this is the best steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant.”

“We were driving through from Waterloo to Minneapolis, stopped in Mason City to visit family and looked at Google maps for restaurants. Happy Donkey came up. Only one other table with customers. We were skeptical. Service was friendly, establishment was clean, food was delicious (donkey enchilada was my choice and couldn't have been happier)!! Worth stopping!! 5/5!!!”

“They know how to treat customers! We were there recently near closing time and were still eating well after closing. We never felt like we were being rushed to leave as you would in many places. Someone was sweeping up, but he made sure he wasn't near our table. A pet peeve of mine is staff sweeping next to our table while we are eating. Our server took very good care of us with a smile on his face. The food was very good and the portions were large.”

“Great service and reasonably priced food and drinks. Full bar and wine available, food was served quickly as well, though it wasn’t busy when we were there.
We got the hand breaded cheese balls which were really good! I got a burger and my husband got chicken, both excellent! Atmosphere is your typical small town bar restaurant vibe. Service was wonderful.

“Pretty great bar, really. We had dinner there since the hotel restaurant was not open when we arrived. The ground level bar was beautiful and service was excellent. It was a quiet evening so we had the back room with the pool table all to ourselves. The food was surprisingly good, especially the fries. Are they fried in duck fat or something? They were just very light and yummy. Flatbread is pretty tasty too, the crust is thin and crispy. Presentation of the cocktails was not very fancy but they were delicious.”

“We had a huge group after a basketball game & the staff was absolutely incredible! The young man that was at the counter was so professional and acted so kind to each child and adult. We got there 30 minutes before they closed the dining area. (No other fast food restaurant is open in our area at that time to accommodate such a large group) They didn’t make us feel like a burden. Very thankful!”

“Cook's cafe is a great place to eat with cheap prices and good service. Sometimes it takes some time to get your food but is well worth it. Most of the waitress are up beat and very attentive. They will have you floating before you leave. Will go back again”

“Been going here for 50 years. If your looking for a Mexican place and have time, it's great. A little hole in the wall place. Plan on a couple of hours. The chips and cheese sauce I'd a must to start and I follow up with cheese and onion enchilada and a chicken taco.”

We always come here for our date night away from the babies that we love so much but while we're there all we can think about is our kids because we love them so much.
so we only take one hour out because it's all we can handle.
