“Small restaurant with great food and service. I ordered the hamburger of the month with smoked gouda and onion bacon jam. It was delicious.Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance has 2 cement steps before the door with no railing. The door is at a sharp angle and narrow.“

“An amazing treasure in rural Iowa. Menu is broad, with a wide selection of common favorites along with a few specialty items served only at the Skillet Cafe. We had the Skillet Plate for breakfast. Peppers and onions were cooked but still crisp, potatoes were also cooked to perfection. Eggs cooked perfectly as ordered (over medium). Service is excellent. Seated promptly and politely by courteous and helpful staff. Food served while still fresh. Follow up for drinks and other needs was very appropriate (not too little, not too much). Covid preparedness is A+. Seating is all 6 feet apart. Touch free menus available by scanning QR code at the table on your smart phone. Touch free checkout also available with credit card. Not just good Covid prep, good service. Very smart. Overall a great reason to visit Mt. Vernon Iowa as often as we can.“

“Stopped in mid afternoon for an early dinner on our way home. We had never been to any of thenBig Groves! We tried the 7 oz Boomtown and a 7 oz Iowa City ? .... Boomtown for the win! Very tasty! We really liked the Boomtown! We decided to order three starters and share them, we were so curious! Started out with the big soft pretzel......it was superb! Both the cheese sauce and the mustard were delicious. A+. Next we tried the Mac and cheese. Lots of creamy sauce, needed a little more cheesy goodness. B Lastly we tried the TaterTot Casserole. Um, we'll, we didn't like it. The tots were super hard, like over cooked, the burger below was kinda bland. C The service was excellent, our waitress even brought us a gift to take home, BOOMTOWN! The beer was great, and the atmosphere was really nice. Now we have to try the Iowa City one!“
