“I love Scratch cupcakes and whenever I come to Iowa City I ALWAYS make it a point to stop by and get cupcakes. This time my wife and I were here to celebrate our daughter's first birthday and of course I placed an order for 15 cupcakes. When I went to pick it up the gal at the counter didn't know how to ring us up and had to call a manager making us late for another pick up and eventually the event itself. And then when we got home we realized that they had given us a cupcake short (box of 12 and a box of 2) eventhough they charged us for 15. Thankfully a couple of guests couldn't make it so we were fine. But it was an unnecessary stress on our little one's birthday. The cupcakes themselves were phenomenal as usual though. Definitely get your cupcakes here.... Just count before you leave.“

While I was there with friends, a minor “incident” occurred with a very disgruntled customer from out of town. As I witnessed in horror the absolute, negative, childlike behavior of the “out of towner”, I was quite impressed with how well the manager and staff handled the immature adult. Even after she made the poor manager cry. I personally give the restaurant 15/10 stars!! I will most DEFINITELY be back! Along with my family and friends!!“

“Sushiya Japanese was such a random road trip find for us and honestly turned out to be a hidden gem. We ended up stopping there during a work trip and it was so good that we’ve now gone back again when passing through the area.

The sushi tasted incredibly fresh, the rolls were creative without being overcomplicated, and everything we tried was excellent. You can tell they really care about quality and presentation. It’s one of those smaller places that completely surprises you once the food comes out.

The atmosphere is also really nice and relaxed, and the service has been great both times we’ve gone. Friendly staff, quick service, and consistently amazing food.

Definitely one of those places you wouldn’t expect to randomly find on a road trip, but once you do, you remember it and want to stop again every time you’re nearby. Total hidden gem.“

The waiter heard me tell my friend why I was ordering the soup and checked to make sure I would be able to eat both the sandwich and the soup. He went above and beyond to cater to my needs. Our lunch was good and his entire demeanor and attitude were very pleasant. Worth stopping here since we were only in town for a doctor's visit at the hospital.“

“We tried this Restaurant out for the first time this last Saturday. We did call and get reservation earlier that week though due to UofI graduations. We ordered seven different items off their menu. “I am a celiac and was pleasantly surprised that they have a whole gluten-free menu with lots of options! One of the servers said that she is a celiac, too. That was cool.
The only thing that made me nervous was the wooden cutting boards they served my gluten free food on. Not sure how they clean them, or if they keep them separate from gluten serving boards, but I know we should mistrust all wooden utensils due to their absorbency. These had obvious cut marks on them and everything.
Happily though, I didn't feel and signs of being glutened. With major gluten ingestions I definitely feel symptoms, and I had none to report here. Hopefully that bodes well.

Dietary restrictions: Celiacs may want to be wary but I think that, pending confirmation about their serving boards, this should be safe. I did not experience symptoms of having gotten glutened, at least. The food was delicious.“

“Went for the Tuesday night which they host a variety of specials. They offer a variety of cocktails for $3 and $4!!! With a huge variety of basic sushi rolls at $4 and specialty rolls at $9. We ate at the bar and service was amazing. They only had one bar tender and it was a pretty busy night.
