What an unusual place! A parking ramp was built around it so it’s a bit hard to find. We entered and were immediately greeted by the staff, who are all women. The entree is a canteen which is a loose meat sandwich with fixing options of tomato, mustard, pickles, and cheese. Delicious! I’d have liked a bit more cheese on mine but that’s the only ding. Be sure to get the pie for dessert! Definitely check it out if you’re ever in Ottumwa
Some of the customers here are racist as hell. I just went in now, have been for a while and a lady asks if I speak Chinese. I asked why she thought that, she said because of how my eyes look...I don't think I'll be back for a while.
Friend of mine suggested I tried this place. We drove 94 miles from Norwalk Iowa. This place is a treasure! Hard working staff whips up your sandwich in minutes. Large moist bun LOADED with loose hamburger, onions to die for, cheese! Wow. Heavenly. I did not try a piece of pie but locals rave about selection and quality. I will return but i will make room for pie and a milk shake. God bless these wonderful people and their food.
