We ate at this restaurant for the first time 7-30-25. As we had just had Mexican food elsewhere the night before so we chose the Whiskey Burger with fries to share. BEST burger I have ever had. French fries were done perfectly.
We ordered sauted vegetables as a side and they were awesome. Perfectly tender crisp and seasoned perfectly.
We will make the drive from Muscatine again!
The chicken fajitas were excellent and our waitress was kind and patient with us old people
What a fantastic place to eat and relax with friends and colleagues. The food is delicious and extremely reasonably priced! I experienced this restaurant when they first opened in Riverside and lived across the street from it. I now live in Iowa City and still go there quite often.

Based on the reviews, La Chiva Loka | Mexican • American has not changed and is just as good as ever. The food is always very good, and the La Chiva sauce is a great touch. The restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine that bursts with flavor. You have to come and try the molcajete; it is the best one in all of Iowa with outstanding flavor, presentation, and quality of ingredients. The Whiskey Burger is the BEST burger, and the French fries are done perfectly. The sauted vegetables are awesome, perfectly tender crisp and seasoned perfectly. The service is exceptional, amazing, and always great, with attentive staff. The ambiance is charming and inviting with vibrant decor and a cozy, family-friendly setting. It is highly recommended.
