Umm, where did the California Mexican Food coupons go from the back of Albertsons receipts? That was the only reason I'd come here.

Stopped by for dinner. Food was good... Place was busy...Waited over 1/2 hour for food ...Many people who came in to eat left because no one would take their order.. Cali Mex waits on drive up and not walk in.... If there is a line in drive up and you want to eat in .... Expect a 30 minute wait IF they even take your order.... This is the third time this has happened to us. So whenever there is a line at drive up we go somewhere else.

Got our order wrong and then refused to fix it or give a refund. The lady at the front counter was rude and argued with me about what was ordered, after the lady at the drive-through admitted her mistake but said they had already made 2 of our orders with chicken instead of steak and they couldnt fix it. Plus the chicken burrito was watery and tasted horrible. Worst experience I've ever had at any place in Boise.

Edit:After 10+ orders and 5+ bad experiences, I’m done with this place. It is sometimes very good, but every other time I’ve ordered, I’ve gotten complete shortcut garbage.

Delicious, quick, and convenient. Go inside and try the salsa bar!
My wife and I stopped here last week after a comedy show. It was almost 1am, and we hadn't eaten since lunch. I ordered a Carne asada breakfast burrito, and it was far better than I could have imagined. Usually, the breakfast burritos at late-night spots like this are full of cheese and potatoes, light on the meat. Not here, no potatoes at all, just a ton of eggs, salsa, and meat. I would absolutely stop here again for another breakfast burrito. My wife ordered the Chile Relleno burrito, and again, this burrito was full of all the best ingredients, without all the fillers. We added this place to our late night stops when we are here in Boise.

This place has been hit or miss over the years. I think it depends on who's working the day you visit. I've had great customer service and terrible customer service. Actually was scolded once while preparing my own sauce packets. A worker came over and rudely said hey read the the sign. After counting them and realizing she was wrong she did not apologize but continued to berate me still insisting that I had too many. It was ridiculous. They were out of carrots but after that scolding I was afraid to request a few carrots. I could go on about the carrot fiasco but I think I made my point. Just hope you visit when the A team is working. To be fair the scolding was a few months back and my last experience was great! Dined in late night. The free coffee is a nice addition. Staff was friendly and food was great!. Giving service 4 out of 5 based on overall average.

Ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and it was very bland, definitely needed seasoning. And the rice tasted off and was too greasy.

I tried California Mexican Food today for the first time. I got the #18 combo, which is 2 Chile Rellenos, Rice & Beans with tortillas for a little less than $10. I went through the drive-through. The service was fast. I was impressed with the weight of the bag. I was even more impressed when I got back to my office and opened up the box. The food looked fantastic!I liked that the Chile Rellenos came with sour cream and a guacamole-like topping. They were made with nice sized poblano chilies. The flavor was good, and they were full of oozing cheese. If I was to rate these based on appearance and flavor, alone, I would rate them 4/5. However, the seeds were not removed from the poblano chilies before cooking them. Every single recipe I’ve seen for Chile Rellenos instructs you to remove the seeds. You don’t realize why that’s important until you get one with seeds. Eating a bunch of hard plant matter along with one’s Chile Relleno is not a pleasant experience. I’m not sure if this was a one off, or if this is how they normally prepare Chile Rellenos at California Mexican Food. The refried beans looked good, but they tasted sour. The rice was OK. I like that the meal comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. I chose flour. The tortillas seemed thick and homemade.
