A local institution, an icon. This isn’t going to be the greatest food you’ve ever eaten. But it’s solid. If you grew up in a small town (preferably a farming community) and frequented the one and only diner in town for breakfast - this is exactly what you know and love.

In the 90s I wouldn't eat there. However as of the last 10 years the place is really upped its game with the food. Service was good food quality was great!

This is a Boise classic that several locals have recommended to me! The scones are the best thing on the menu (the Dutch Baby’s are a personal favorite) and they serve delicious, old-fashioned American breakfasts and lunches.
Service is warm and the inside is full of memories from Boise’s past. Prices are appropriate for the big portion sizes. I’ll be going again for more scones soon!

I really enjoyed my visit to this spot; it has such a classic, welcoming feel that’s hard to find these days. The comfort food was delicious and exactly what I was in the mood for, and the retro atmosphere just added to the whole experience. It’s a great place to sit down for a meal that feels like it was made with care. I had a wonderful time and would definitely come back for another visit.

We had the worst breakfast ever. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast. The chicken Fried Steak was overcooked and crunchy. The gravy was flour and water with absolutely no flavor at all. It was the worst gravy I have ever eaten. The hash browns were way over cooked, crunchy!
I am home 3 hours later and have dysentery. I have eaten there a few times before but ever had this experience.

Merritt is always great. The scones are awesome. I love to go there.
I don't try to disrespect anybody especially. when it's basically a Mom and Pop legacy restaurant. Meaning it has a really good rapport overall with the community. But it was definitely not their day. It took forever to get the food out it was cold when it arrived. they forgot to get us forks for the entire table. And considering they've been dealing with construction and it's hard to get into their parking lot. You'd think they would be happy to have customers. And would attempt to be a little more on it. As far as I could tell they were fully staffed. There may be some things I'm unaware of. Call me crazy though if I'm paying 20 bucks a plate for four or five people I want the food to be decent and what I ordered. I didn't just order toast and eggs it was all steak plates. Well three of them were. So a pass for me.

Was very loud and crowded. Tables were very close together and we waited an hour for our food which was a chicken fried steak that they say is hand breaded in house. However, I would not say its breaded at all. It was extremely thin, dry, and looked like maybe they dipped it in an egg wash then a few packs crumbs. The scones was great but the drive there is about 45 mins from the freeway via GPS because we are not from the area. Service was great but parking was a nightmare. Overall I wouldn't drive there or eat there again.
