The Modern Hotel is a true Boise spot, with one of the better, more unique, more high-end and innovative food and drink offerings, and also a great spot for events. With an indoor dining area, as well as an outdoor dining area with firepits, and where some musical and performance events are held, it is a cheerful spot, tucked away in downtown Boise, that you might not find out about for a few trips in.Absolutely worth a spot: Always check in on the drink specials, and soak up the great design, presentation, and friendly staff.

I don't even recall when I first stayed at this hotel, maybe 2012. I've been back many many times since. The Modern is always the first and/or last stop of my ski season travels. Coming or going, you will find me enjoying a cocktail at the modern bar after a long drive. Given its tiny size and location in a boutique hotel far enough off the main drag to be inconvenient, it's always packed. Kind of the place to be seen in Boise. The drinks are awesome and the food is excellent. If you're a guest of the hotel, their complimentary breakfast is superb ... How many places have you stayed where a bacon fritatta is a breakfast choice? None, that's how many.

I was pleasantly surprised with the modern. Great drinks and the food was amazing. They served the best gnocchi I've ever had.

Inviting and unpretentious setting. Thoughtful and unique cocktails. Each food dish was exceptional. Very highly recommend.

Really great meal, perfect spot for a little date night. The inside is small, but quaint. Unfortunately, we did have an older couple sit next to us who watched the news on their phone for half the meal at high volume which was very annoying, but not the restaurants fault... Onto the food, we shared everything. We started with the cauliflower app and it's probably one of the best cauliflower dishes I've had. So much so I went home that week and attempted to re-create it! The Kalamata olives and Peppercinis complemented the baba ganoush flavor wonderfully. My boyfriend who doesn't even like cauliflower loved this dish. Next we got the mushroom soup. It was okay, completely puréed so I got a little bored of it. A cup size would have been perfect. They do add these strange like rice croutons ontop, could have used a bit more for added texture. The chicken dish was fantastic, honestly not even sure what it was filled with but the squash it was accompanied by was to die for. I got a glass of wine and my partner a cider and our bill was over $100 for sharing 3 plates....definitely a pricy meal, but worth it for a nice, quiet evening out.

Here's a fun game you can play while you wait for your meal, find the best spots on the wall for them to put all the awards they are going to receive. The food here is incredible. A must pilgrimage for any foodie living or visiting the Treasure

Food was decent. Employees were inattentive. Prices were ridiculously high for what it was. There are so many better restaurants down the street to choose from in that price range.

Wow, how have I lived in Boise for 3 years & not experienced the Modern until just this week? I have been missing out!!!We stopped in for the last round of Campfire Stories that was being held in the Modern Courtyard. Sweet Zoey was super helpful in getting us a little corner table even tho we didn't have reservations. She was attentive all night; and just the right amount! Not overbearing at all. The food. Oh my Goodness! We started with the Bread & Butter. (see photo) This is no ordinary butter. Something about this salted butter sent my tastebuds into high gear! Def. give it a shot.I ordered the Beet Salad as my main. The presentation was stunning. I enjoyed every single bite that I swirled around the sauces & purees.I SUPER enjoyed my cocktail as well! So fun to see something that included Pisco on a menu! I feel like I never see that in Boise. It was super delish!Honestly, we can't wait to come back! Thank you for such a lovely experience!!!!!!

My compliments to the chef. This food was so fresh and delicious. The taste was perfectly balanced and pleasing to all the senses. It was light, rich and flavorful. I’m very particular about the quality of my food and I don’t have a single complaint. My server Taryn was very courteous and attentive. I highly recommend supporting this very special small business. I will remember this meal for a long time.

Foods delicious but I don’t understand the hype. Came in on a Thursday around 8pm. Staff seemed more interested in socializing with their friends that were sitting at the other end of the bar. Only way they described multiple menu items when asked was “it’s hard to explain” and “it’s not like that”. Thanks for the guidance. Glad I was able to pick out something good.
