My favorite restaurant in the world right here! You've got to try their express location in Meridian! Yummy!

By far the best place I have been for traditional sushi. Always high quality fish and the staff is friendly and prompt with service. I come in probably once a month

We went to dinner here for the first time a few weeks ago. It was a Saturday evening which is typically a busier time for downtown restaurants. The only negative is that they are lacking in servers. We waited about 40 minutes before we even got asked what we would like to drink. Once we ordered everything was much better. The food is absolutely delicious!

I have been here several time and enjoyed the food. Came here in February 2018 and after 45 minutes with NO acknowledgement, we left. I swore I would never go back. We're in town tonight and We're giving them one last chance. Hoping the service has changed considerably. Will post update after dinner.

As a server who used to work at a Japanese restaurant, this is amazing. Really good gyoza, served with a spicy ponzu. Mostly a meat filling, super yummy. Some of THE best miso I have ever had. So good. Served with tofu instead of noodles. I got the chicken sukiyaki with buckwheat noodles instead of soba or rice noodle, and it was AMAZING. Beautiful presentation and amazing broth. The chicken was wonderful and so flavorful. I got one of the sake-tinis, the sour nipple, and it was so yummy. Very sweet. Yuki was working when we were in and she was AMAZING. She had 8 tables when we walked in and she was still so efficient and took wonderful care of us. She was very friendly and accommodating. 11/10 Stars

I dont like to post negative reviews as I am a business owner myself. My feet stuck to the floor...nasty. Food was less than subpar. Our entree came out before our appetizer and our salad was served last. Never offered any water, and had to wait forever for our check. A very very dissatisfying dinner.

The salmon sushi and the tempura udon were fabulous. The sushi chef and waitress were vary warm and we had a wonderful lunch meal. However, the music was probably authentic but a little weird. Overall, recommend this restaurant to my friends in Boise.

Up on second floor of building. Take the escalator on 8th or elevator/stairs back toward the parking garage. Attached paid garage parking or paid street parking nearby. It was a slow day when we went. Sushi was good for Boise, service was good. Bathrooms are outside of the restaurant down a hallway on the left. Share with 2 other restaurants.

Ordered through Ubereats. I had the handroll combo ($15.95) that included salmon, tuna, hamachi and California. disappointed that there wasn't much added in the handroll itself. Just the fish and sushi rice wrapped around by the nori seaweed paper. pretty basic. nothing special.

Excellent sushi and excellent service. We recently moved to Idaho and were in search of a new "go to" sushi bar. We've past this restaurant many times and it was always packed with customer (which is always a good sign). Tonight was our night to give it a try. We were not disappointed in the least!! 26 years in business and clearly there is a reason why! Great variety and very tasty!! We will be back very soon!

Would've loved to try the food but didn't get to. My friend called to make reservations and was told that she didn't need to worry about making one, it wouldn't be that busy (even though it was a Friday evening). Our party showed up and, sure enough, it was incredibly busy. Awkwardly stood by the door for a few minutes as we weren't sure if we needed to wait to be seated and most tables were full. Finally managed to stop a waitress (who was just going to walk by us?). She told us it would be a thirty minute wait (also have a hard time believing that as there was no one else waiting to be seated, but whatever). Another waitress heard us talking and said there was on open table towards the back we could sit at, it just needed to be cleaned. Then they both walked away to attend some other tables. ... So was there a wait? Should we sit down at the table? Should we wait for someone to clean it first? We ultimately ate somewhere else. Would not have minded waiting as I understand it was busy. Just frustrating that we attempted to make a reservation to avoid waiting and then the staff was unhelpful when we arrived. Maybe will try again another time as those who were eating seemed to enjoy their meals.

I came here for the first time on New Year's day and had a phenomenal experience. My group came in with...wait for it...26 people! They had a table along the back wall beautifully set and ready for us the moment we walked in. Service: Our server was very organized and asked us before we started ordering if we'd be paying together or separate. (I appreciate this because it's a real bummer for a) the server and b) the patrons when you have to wait for a to bill get split at the end of the night.) With that said, she took down each person's name so there was no confusion as to who ordered what. She had drinks on our table swiftly, took our orders not too long after distributing drinks, and had miso soup on the table for everyone right after she put our orders in. The flow of service was seamless! Food: + The miso soup was the perfect way to start off this meal. Steaming hot, savory, and served without a spoon. Nothing cozier than sipping soup straight from the bowl, eh? + For dinner, I ordered the Yasai Maki. I am not exaggerating when I say this is my favorite vegetable roll I've yet to try. It was wrapped in soy paper instead of seaweed. Contained within it was rice, carrots with a touch of tempura, cucumbers, lettuce, and avocado. I still can't tell if it was the tempura or the soy paper that made me love this roll so much--either way, all of the textures and flavors combined wonderfully. + In addition to this, my friend and I split an order of pork potstickers and requested that they be panfried as opposed to deep fried. The outside was cooked perfectly, slightly crispy but still a little bit tender; the pork inside was delicious and packed full of flavor! Final Thoughts: I know, I know, I came to a sushi restaurant and didn't order fish. It just wasn't what my palate was yearning for that day. I can personally vouch for the dishes I tried, and by word of mouth (from the people at my table), vouch for the dishes they tried. Everyone at my table had great things to say about their dishes (whether they contained seafood or not). Give 'em a try!

Good food, good atmosphere. Real sushi. Favourite: the yuppie roll. Needs improvement: tuna tataki (too thick of a cut and too cooked)

It's been quite sometime since i've eaten at Shige's Japanese Resteraunt. I happened across a Living Social deal, $30 of sushi or other food for $18.50. Living Social got me downtown Boise and Shige, unfortunately Shige will not bring me back. Several decades ago Shige didnt have much competition in Boise. With all the growth our valley has seen, numerous sushi and Japanese restaurants have opened which do a much better job than Shige, which is why I suspect they did a Living Social. We ordered Island Girl ($15) and the sashimi / sushi combo ($14). Menu indicated the combo was chef's choice. To be clear, those prices are right on par with the best sushi joints in town, especially specialty rolls. Unfortunatley the prices were way too high for the quality and flavor. The Island Girl was equal to grocery store quality. The sashimi knife cuts were thick and very irregular, almost like the pieces were left from a previous carving. The chef choice was California Roll, the least inexpensive / creative of all sushi. Oddly, the California Roll was very dry... I have never experienced dry sushi rolls, ever. On a positive note, it was a gorgeous day downtown Boise, I got to spend some time with the wife, and parking was free.
