Stop by a super Wal-Mart on the way to the Funky Taco. From Aisle 34, pick up tar. From Aisle 52, feathers. Now head downtown and give the leaders of this hyped home of overpriced Mexican / Fusion fare the 1-2 punch they deserve for appropriating the term synonymous with true funkmeisters James Brown, and Sly Stone (the newly minted member of the Six Feet Under Club certainly has no shortage of material to ROLL in his grave). But it is unlikely you’ll find the pair of champs, for they hide behind an ambiguous screen (search any of their websites for their full names). Where do they roam? On a faraway lake if they’re as smart as they say. Instead, if it’s morning, you’ll be met by the aloof manager M., whose demeanor is as cold as the salsa. A failed local deejay, his facial scarring symbolizes the spiritual degradation of this once “okay” burrito joint.

The owners’ secret to success: JUST ADD ALCOHOL. “New improved Funky Taco—now with beers and cocktails!” .. It’s a strategy they employ time and again in their burgeoning empire, most notably at THE STIL (ice cream plus booze) and perhaps most dangerously at Bogus Basin, where their “food truck / bar” serves as a triple-black diamond, as skiers and the hip insiders of the concession chug beers, sling back shots and gorge on… surprise—over-priced foodstuffs in between daring runs on the once pristine trails.

And yet this leveraging of liquor licenses (honestly obtained for sure) allows the duo (DS and KA) to mark-up subpar fare to premium prices. BOOM! They gain MUCHO PROFITS and the adoration of a foggy-brained clientele who, if they get around to logging into their bank accounts later that week, will notice the outsized layout, and shrug it off.

Well pally, let me ask you. Please think about this carefully. Would you pay $14 plus tip for a BREAKFAST burrito TOGO (sans Bloody Mary)? Yes? Now read this slowly, fellow citizen:

EYE YAM SOFA KING WE TODD DID.

Yes you are!

We had a fantastic experience at The Funky Taco in downtown Boise! The atmosphere was super chill and inviting and the creative taco concoctions were unreal! Shredded carrots on my nachos? Yes please! And be sure to check out the stuffed churros for dessert! We were in town from Puyallup WA, and now hoping to see a Tacoma location someday maybe???

Way better than we ever expected for takeout! We were genuinely blown away by the mushroom birria—honestly, we'd make the 5-hour drive from home just for that alone. We also grabbed the nachos, which came piled high and packed with flavor. Every bite was 100% delicious 😋

I had it a couple of tacos, A Prawnto and a Classic with Carne Asada. Both were excellent! It was a little pricey, but what isn't anymore? I have been back again since, and will add this to my list of regular spots. The food is very good.

I always order online to go. It's usually really good but if they do mess up they don't respond to any messages regarding it.

We've ordered pickup twice now and the burritos have been excellent both times. Would highly recommend this place!

I consider myself a breakfast burrito connoisseur. Upon the first bite, this burrito ranks at the top of my list! Fluffy scrambled eggs, perfectly seasoned potatoes, smoky bacon, and insanely good salsa! I can’t say enough! Go! You will not regret!

Ordering ahead for the Odd Box Breakfast Project is the way to go!! It was ready within a couple minutes of us showing up and as expected for the quoted time when we placed the order online. The food is delish and this was our second time having Odd Box. We will be back for sure!! The staff is also very friendly!
