“First thing first, the name is cloyingly goofy. Consider a rebrand. I mean, if you are going to put a water feature in the front of the resort, you could stand to update the branding on this lounge, given its prime location in the resort. Whispers? Yuck. Think of something that relates to the water and the water feature that forms the sign for the bar. Come on. You got time! How about Coeur le Lac?

I remember when this bar was a sorta’ spillover lounge years ago (when there was still carpeting on the pillars in the lobby and a guy playing the piano). So, I have watched it change over the years. Gone is the fireplace in the main area (a nice touch, but I understand removing it). The bar is now separated from the lobby (and has been for many years, which also makes sense when dealing with age-related issues). It still features the oddly sunken main bar area. And it has for years featured seating options both close to the lobby and also more to the interior of the bar itself (with views out towards the marina). There is also a much better utilized outside area (once just a slab of concrete) that functions as an all-season money generator. Smart move!

Over the years, service has been generally good if not great. Sometimes, they charge you for a soda water to go. Sometimes, they do not. This visit, no charge and certainly appreciated. Mind you, we also ordered drinks and sat in the bar three times (once just three of us, twice five of us). The servers were great this time. Fairly quick service (one night it was very busy, the other two times not too busy). They seem to have enough servers for the space. But, trust me, these servers don’t have a lot of time to sit around. They are busy!

They offer your standard “resort range” of drinks (with some high end offerings for those who want to show off to their friends). The mixed drinks are well poured. The beer and wine options are fine. They are priced, for where you are, appropriately. And you can scroll through the choices on the resort-ready tablets (remember: they can change prices and options much more easily this way).

Any suggestions? Sure. Try to make sure you are actually cleaning those tablets on a fairly regular basis. They are grime magnets. So, too, those shiny tables. Our table clearly hadn’t been wiped down in a while. Those are minor quibbles that are easily handled. But they help to make the upscale feel a touch more upscale . . . until they finally find a better name.

Oh, and the people watching? Also worth the price. You get to see the whole range of guests who come to this resort. You also get to listen to them (some of whom, as the drinks keep flowing, get more and more interesting to eavesdrop on while they giggle and chat and so on).

I think this place deserves a solid 4.5 rating. I would also note that negative reviews are few and far between (and most are quite old). You came to a lobby bar for dinner? That’s on you. You complain about the view? Take a look at where the bar is located. Do you want them to remove the marina so you can take a selfie? It seems like this place has great/good staff and tries to serve their guests well.

Recommended. And thanks for making our recent visit a fun and relaxing time.“
