Rustic Pig BBQ, Fruitland, ID

We used to eat Rustic Pig almost on a weekly basis, when we wanted to eat out but still wanted quality food Rustic Pig was our first choice. I even brought customers to Rustic Pig who were hesitant to try a restaurant that was inside a gas station but sadly today was probably our last time eating here. The quality and pride in the food is just no longer there. Today our Mac & cheese was mush and all the meat tasted like it had been reheated from the weekend. So sad.

If ya like BBQ, and you’re from Texas needing a fix - this place will do it! We ordered brisket sandwiches, pulled pork, chicken and sausage to have us a nice spread and that’s exactly what we got. All delicious! And a fun little gem of Banana Pudding for dessert, just like down south, topped with a vanilla wafer. YES SIR! Service was great, friendly and helpful. We will be back, looking forward to it already!

We were going to go to the Black Cow for an early lunch, but it was closed while moving to a new location. Since this was next door, we decided to try it. Very few cars in the lot, a few folks inside, but it got crowded by the time we left.

A small BBQ joint sharing a building with the Shell gas station in Fruitland, ID. It was a pizza place at one time. There are about 10 tables with a small bit of decor and a TV. Orders are taken and delivered at the counter. They have daily specials listed on the chalkboard.

One of the specials was a new chili mac burrito, so I thought I would give that a shot, with brisket as my meat of choice. Pretty good burrito, I could taste all three ingredients, plenty of smokiness. They have quite a few BBQ sauces to choose from as well. I will have to try their ribs the next time I go.

Kind of a hit or miss place it seems. We’ve been here a few times. We got the ribs today and we were very surprised with how dry they were and there was hardly any meat ok them. The Smokey flavor was really in there though which is why I gave it a 3 stars not a 2 or 1. Service doesn’t really happen, not in the traditional restaurant sense. You order, they make the food and call your name when it’s ready. The atmosphere is all over the place. Loud music coming from the kitchen, television on playing sports and then of course it’s connected to a shell gas station store. The garlic mash potatoes, neither my wife or I were fans and we both like garlic and potatoes. We got the burrito, the Chili Mac Burito, we were pleasantly surprised. The meat (pulled pork was our choice) wasn’t dry or overpowering. The Mac n cheese was cooked well and had a good consistency and the baked beans gave it a good surprise. If you love BBQ and are in the are and craving BBQ, it’s an ok place to come. Kind of leaves something on the table though. Like something is missing.
