The Black Cow Cafe and Mercantile

We had a phenomenal dinner at The Black Cow this evening! I planned to get a burger, but then I saw the jalapeno sandwich on the menu, which is my absolute favorite!! So that's what my husband & I ordered. I asked him if the sandwich lived up to all the bragging I've done about it. He said yeah, it was amazing, the best sandwich he's ever had. The fries were amazing, perfectly crispy. Our 10yo and 7yo shared a pulled pork sandwich and fries and both said it was delicious. Our 2yo had Mac & Cheese that everyone tried and loved! My husband isn't a picky eater, but when it comes to eating out, there's usually something that he dislikes or grumbles about. The Black Cow is the first place he didn't have anything negative to say about. He was impressed and thought all of it was great. He even said, "That glass holds more beer than I thought." Our waitress was super nice and took great care of us. It was a great experience, absolutely amazing food, and we'll definitely be going back!

I went in today, Wednesday night, and my hostess, young looking with blonde hair in a bun, was very rude, she acted like she didn't want to be there, and treated me as If she was annoyed with me when I had just walked in. I would expect this behavior in a highscool hallway, but not in a professional work environment, especially from the person greeting everyone.

Today (7/30) was my first time dining at Black Cow Eats & Drinks, and unfortunately, it left a lasting impression — for all the wrong reasons. I ordered a cheeseburger with a side salad. When the salad arrived, it was full of wilted and slimy spring mix — clearly not fresh or acceptable. I picked through it, hoping the rest of the meal would redeem the experience. When my plate came out, I was surprised to see fries on it, since I had chosen a side salad. The server, Riley, explained that the kitchen had made a mistake. I assumed the fries were a thoughtful gesture to make up for the poor quality of the salad. Sadly, I was wrong. To make matters worse, my cheeseburger was missing the cheese. After a few minutes, I flagged Riley down, and she took my plate, saying she’d bring the fries back so I wouldn’t be left hungry while the burger was being fixed. But she never returned with them. When she finally came back with the corrected burger, she informed me that the fries wouldn’t be returned because they had been given to me “by mistake.” I was stunned. Rather than allow me to keep a side of fries — which were already served and should have been offered in place of the unacceptable salad — your staff chose to throw them away. This wasn’t just a service misstep; it was a display of poor customer care and even worse judgment. A simple, gracious gesture could have turned this experience around. Instead, I left completely disappointed. For what it’s worth, the burger (once corrected) and the fries (what little I had) were absolutely delicious. But the lack of hospitality and the way the situation was handled means I won’t be returning.

My friend and I went there for the first time since they opened a little over a month ago. They're not new the to area but they moved into a new building that was much bigger. And they also have a bar now. I got a chicken salad that was amazing. Also got fries which were really good!! My friend got the finger steaks and fries and she really loved them. Service was great they were a bit busy.

Seemed like a nice place to go get a late lunch. My wife and I came in, and it seemed nice enough. Sign said to seat ourselves, so we did. Not at a clean table, but an available one. We sat there for 13 minutes, while we watched 2 separate servers help 2 other tables that had already ordered.

The final straw was when a different couple walked in, and were almost immediately serviced with menus and a drink order.

I was fully prepared to spend money on cocktails and food, but not here! I may give this place another chance. But probably not. Wish I could rate the food...

This was… the best BLT of my life. The bread was toasted to perfection, the bacon was perfect, everything was wonderful. The fries were amazing and what the heck do they do to the fry sauce here??? It was delicious. Service was great, super friendly and the atmosphere was so freaking cute, I want them to come decorate my house. 🤣 Overall a HUGE fan and hope I make it back this way to eat here again one day soon!

The food was phenomenal, our bartender Laura was amazing! Even though it was busy, it did not take long to get our food. All in all 10 out of 10.

great food and service and the blonde lady at the register was very friendly and was short staffed but still managed to cook our food in a decent amount of time!!! had it all ready when I came to pick it up! highly recommend!!! decent portions too!!

The flatbread and sandwiches were good. Fresh sliced meats, good bread and generous proportions. Sides are sold separately. The space is very small with limited seating. You order at the counter. If we were to stop through here again, we would do a to go order.

The food is very good. I had the bird berry sandwich. However there didn't seem to be enough cranberry to compliment the turkey. The staff isn't super friendly but not rude either. I was very taken back by them having the door open in the winter. That made my experience miserable as I sat there trying to eat, and converse with my friend while freezing. Too bad I won't be going back because of that.

If they added fried potatoes it would be really good
