You have to use the completely stupid kiosks to order your food. There isn't a front teller or even a waitress anymore. Just 2 people cooking food. You have to serve yourself now and they just holler your name when it is ready. I hate the way it is set up now.
What next? Precooked food and when you place your order. A door opens up, you rip the plastic open and put it in a microwave. Just like those stupid Japs are doing in Tokyo.
This is just a stupid place to eat now.

Does not take cash at the restaurant?? Wha kid of bull shit is this ! They should be sued because cash is legal tender everywhere or be forced to use a debit or credit card!!! You lost my business forever

I won't go in to a steak 'n shake anymore I only go through the drive-thru because inside I'm expected to program a computer to get fed. Apparently I'm not the only one because we were the only customers in there at the time The last time I was in there it was packed with people. Now that you have to communicate with a machine to get your food they have no customers they do have people coming in to get carryout.

Kiosk to order was down, had to wait for the manager to wait on us. No menus to see what they have. Very poor business. I will not be back to this one. Jacksonville, IL is the best one around.

I used to love steak and shake, but I'm pretty sure I've eaten the last bowl of their chili that I can handle. It is just not the same anymore, burgers, chili etc. I went in to wash my hands after ordering on the touch screen that everyone else in the world has touched, wow! almost wish I could have unordered. The bathroom looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned for a while, every toilet had toilet paper laying around it on the floor, and the urinals were discusting as well. I'm thinking what is the kitchen condition on the other side of the wall. The floors seemed kind of lightly coated with cooking oil or grease, the table and seats were not clean. This place was and could still be great but not sure what the corporate ceos and management are going to do with today's work force, it makes you wonder is this just how lazy our future generations of workers are or is it the management because something has changed. I'd just asoon go back to ordering off a menu, from a waitress in a somewhat clean restaurant, than order off a kiosk, and scan a QR code to fill up a drink, in a nasty environment. Seems like a lot of the companies money has been spent on technology to try and eliminate the expensive workforce but you now kind of have a sub par destination not hardly worthy of stopping when there is still a lot of competition out there. In my opinion quality always wins, and this experience was not that, sorry if I've offened anyone but this is the honest truth.

Id like to request a sign that makes it easier for blunt people like myself to figure out that the qr code you get after purchase is to scan at the drink station to get your beverage. Just a big dumb sign of how stuff is now because of covid. Case in point I watched 2 customers try to figure out what I had to figure out: How to get your soda beverage. It was painful to watch and not help but I was lost in the study of it as that is my schooling. They got it in good time but the issue is there. Just noting...
I hadn't been to a SnS in a long time and there's no waiters or waitresses anymore. They brought our stuff out to us though and that was neat. BAM! Here's your hot food and small tub of cheese. Cheese bliss. Milkshake bliss. Western burger bliss. I know its a big ask but could you roll it all back 10 years? Thanks.

Food is subpar at best. Cold, barely cooked fries. Cheese wasn’t melted on the burger because the patty was cold. Only thing in our order that was hot was the chicken strips.
Wish they would fix the outside lights we always think they are closed.
