Sat at the counter so I could watch the action. Such a well run kitchen and happy staff. Top tier Toki highballs. I had the December special which was lobster wonton and it was delightful. A perfect marriage of ramen and lobster bisque. The wontons are made in house and had perfect texture. Same with the noodles. Easily the best ramen in Chicago.

They closed at 9pm and made us book at 8.30pm not even advising us before the closing time. The ramen was not soo good with mostly pasta and the egg was extra. A lot of better place in Chicago.

Only 3 options of soup ramen, only one classic and authentic type. Ikura rice was soggy, poorly contrasting the roe.

My favorite ramen shop in the city. Absolutely delicious food. Always consistent. Great quality.

Yup, here I am at @akahoshiramen again and, since it's a new month, there's a new special! This time we have a doozy of a bowl: a lobster wontonmen. As soon as I read the name I knew I had to get it. Needless to say I was excited to try this out! Once the bowl was set in front of me, I could smell the chicken and lobster flavors wafting from the bowl. Taking a sip I was surprised to find that no one flavor dominated: both the chicken and lobster were seamlessly blended and incredibly well balanced. In short, it was just THAT good and that balance never wavered up to the last drop. I probably could've had just a bowl of the soup alone and I would've been satisfied. The noodles are the same used in his miso, medium thick and wavy, which paired well with this broth. Given that the consistency of the soup is similar to his miso probably helps, and the richness of the soup is wonderfully harmonized with the chewiness and texture of the noodles. Those wontons though; oh those wontons! The fact that there are six of them in this bowl is a wonder, let alone that they contain lobster. The wonton skins are silky thin and don't get in the way of enjoying the juicy meat inside. I was tempted to order extra but this being their opening night of the special and the fact that @ramen__lord said there were limited quantities held me back. But there's plenty here to enjoy and I devoured them way too quickly. The remaining toppings are typical Akahoshi quality, including the egg, menma, and green onions (negi in Japanese). It might seem like an afterthought when I write it this way, but they're simply integral to tying the bowl together. It's just that they have never once missed a beat with these toppings and it just goes to show how they haven't once wavered in their quality. With the holidays and cold (COLD) winter weather arriving, don't miss out on this if you're able to get a seat. This may be the last time I dine at Akahoshi this year, so I'm glad I'm going o

We went there as the restaurant was accepting a Chase reserve credit cards $300 dining credit. The food's quality and portion were outstanding. The price was probably an average for the location. The restaurant was extremely clean and the staff was nice and energetic. If I live in the area or want to meet up with friends in the area, I would definitely go back. One thing to note is that there is no typical Japanese appetizers but the ramen and topping would make up for it.

We sat at the bar, the owner of the restaurant chatted with us while we sipped tasty cocktails. He explained that everything is made from scratch. The broth, egg, noodles and pork belly were soooo good! Will definitely be coming back!

Minimal but well-executed menu. Very attentive service. I'll be back for the delicious ramen.

Delicious monthly specials, a cozy environment, and attentive service set this ramen spot above the rest. I do wish prices were a bit more affordable, but I can tell that the ingredients are quality.

Great ramen! Broth was amazing, noodles are amazing. Limited menu makes it easy and quick to get your food. Was in and out in 25 minutes. Very nice, would definitely come back again.

Thought the soupless tantamen was as good as always. Can't go wrong with that one. But was disappointed that the akahoshi miso ramen wasn't as good as it used to be. The broth wasn't as flavorful nor the pork chashu. The chashu rice bowl was also not as good as I remembered. The pork was slightly overcooked. Hope it was just a one time mishap.

Awesome space, super friendly & helpful service, and the best ramen I have had in the city

Ramen was fantastic, pretty sure the owner was there serving bowls of ramen as well. Haven't had ramen this good since Kizuki closed down further down Milwaukee. Will definitely be coming back.

Soup is good but the noodle is more like SOBA noodle. Also you have to pay 20% mandatory gratitude without prior informed. The service is very standard.
