Every time we go to Anelya is an amazing experience. I've loved everything I've had and the variety of zakuski (small plates) means you can taste a lot of different dishes. Service is always on point, welcoming, & helpful.

As a Ukrainian, this place was not up to my expectations. First of all, the appetizers and dishes overall are ridiculously small and not good enough for that price. It’s a joke to charge $7 for pickled cucumbers or tomatoes. We got three appetizers that would normally come with bread but we had to order a small portion of bread separately for another $7 which was barely enough for the appetizers we ordered.
The price would be fine for a premium product but the chicken pashtet was not even that good and did not have enough liver taste that you would normally expect from this dish.
As for Krovyanka (blood sausage), it was dry inside, and served with way too much oil that made the dish too heavy and I couldn’t finish it.
As for Banosh, it has to be more creamy, prepared with heavy cream, but it was instead lacking flavor and tasted like it was cooked with water. Bland.
A good Banosh is served with porcini but what we got was regular mushrooms. Again, not a great dish for such a high price.
My friend’s Mushroom Yushka was too salty and was lacking the intense mushroom flavor you would normally expect.
The service and atmosphere was great but the food was definitely not worth it.
That was a disappointment as I know how much better most of the dishes would taste in Ukraine.
For the fancy appearance they are trying to make the food is just not great enough and not even close to its authentic counterparts.

I was charged for a missed reservation despite multiple attempts to cancel it. This restaurant rarely answers phone calls. When I finally received a response weeks after the charge, I found out the my reservation was under a random person's name and that it was my fault for not cancelling sooner. Don't waste your time here

We had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the Crimean olives were good and the Poltava was a standout, with great creativity and an excellent blend of flavors. The broccoli salad was another highlight, fresh and well-seasoned.

The biggest disappointment, and the main reason for 3 stars was the borscht. While the flavor was okay, it lacked salt and it was very overpriced at $20. Charging that much for a dish known for its frugality is quite audacious. I can make 12 quarts at home for nearly the same price. For that price, they could at the very least include a slice of bread. But instead, they suggest ordering pampushky if you'd like to eat it with bread. We tried it, but the dinner roll-like bread didn’t pair well with the borscht; a hearty, dark bread like rye would have been a much better complement.

The trout roe, though decent, was unremarkable and didn’t add much to the experience.

music too loud, lacking ambiance. Other than the food, nothing else to suggest this was a Ukrainian restaurant. Needs some Ukrainians music, low volume. Difficult to carry on a conversation with the speakers blaring.

Wheelchair accessibility: Difficult to maneuver with a rolling walker.Street parking is limited.

No surprise that Chicago got first Ukrainian ethnic restaurant recommended by Michelin guide! Guys, if you want to experience truly authentic and the highest quality Ukrainian cuisine - don't hesitate! Delicious, beautiful, very affordable food with some unique touches. Borsch, holubtsi, salo, even medovyk cake - seems simple, but they found the ways to highlight something special in every dish. Highly recommended 🙏🏻 #ukrainiancuisine #michlenguide

Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. I can’t think of anything I’d suggest for improvement for our next visit. Make reservations if you’re going. They get pretty busy. Also, to note, the apps are brought out to your table on a cart so you can see exactly what you’re getting!

Life is too short to drink bad wine

Spent almost 200$ for 2 but left hungry!

Food was good but I wish I could have more traditional Ukrainian presentation than at this restaurant.
.
The pashtet, babaganush & some other appetizers were served with no bread/crostini.
Borsch with smoked duck was good but again served with no bread,so you need to order & pay additional $ & it’s not about $$$ but about the overall experience & the way it must be.

Herring was delicious but only 3 small pieces & could have way better presentation than it was.
Ukrainian chef Klopotenko said it’s a Michelin’s star restaurant in his advertisement but their wine glasses are far from the Michelin stars restaurants for example.
The service was ok but not the best!
The atmosphere was 50/50!
Overall experience 3 out of 5!
I would prefer to it in Puzata hata buffet type restaurant in Ukraine than in this place.
I don’t even want to say anything about wine list!

I won’t be back at this restaurant!
One time is fine but won’t spent $$$$ here anymore!
I still believe there is no food Ukrainian restaurants in Chicago. I had hopes on this one but it failed.

Everything was just FINE! Food needs improvement! How borscht can be served without bread or pampushki? How pashtet(pate) or humus can be served without bread or pita??? They sell bread separately for $7 for 2 pieces and 2 small crostini. It’s not Ukrainian restaurant at all! Spend $190 for 2 people and it’s supper overpriced! We will not come back
