We took my boyfriends mom to Awash bc she had never had Ethiopian food - it was very quiet with only a few other guests but it’s set back from the road and I think maybe doesn’t do as much business for lunch. The dining room is really nice and the service was excellent - our server was very patient and thoughtful, and answered all of my boyfriend’s mom’s questions helpfully and helped us figure out the best choices to share across the three of us. The food was excellent...

This is the best Ethiopian restaurant I have been to around Chicago! The lentil and spinach sambusas are a must try!

The fava bean dish (elebete) in the veg combo is a masterpiece! Highly recommended for anyone around Chicago.

AN ABSOLUTE GEM! Highly recommend! Had the vegetarian combination, which is vegan by default. The chef, Mercy, is clearly passionate about cooking and it shows! All the sides with injera were great; the Fava bean-based center dish (elebete) was the highlight. I have visited about 5 times and the quality of the food has remained the same. Healthy, tasty, affordable and an extremely friendly staff!
