I stopped into Bari and asked the guy at the counter to make me a sandwich — specifically one that included Italian beef. He didn’t disappoint. What I got was a massive, flavor-packed sandwich that was as generous in size as it was in taste. The beef was tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly, with just a slight kick of spice — enough to wake up your taste buds without overwhelming them (and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t love a lot of heat).

Look. Let’s cut to the chase. If you go to Chicago for ANYTHING, go for the Italian beef. I was first introduced to this holy grail of meat on a bun at Portillo’s and it’s been a rollercoaster of a ride ever since.
