We just left Bavettes like 20 minutes ago, and it was so good I actually couldn’t wait to write a review. I literally felt inspired to write a review ?. They were recommended to us by a Chicago native family member and I also kept seeing them all over TikTok. My husband and I had to log onto Resy the SECOND it opened reservations for this Saturday but it was WORTH IT. The host complimented our outfits, which I thought was so kind ? (mostly because both of us sit in scrubs all day and don’t have the slightest clue on fashion). Our waiter (Brad? I think) was so attentive and gave us great recommendations on food and sides. I personally loved that he didn’t bother us the entire meal, yet everything was always taken care of.

The Harvey House in Madison has my favorite dirty martini. HOWEVER, Bavettes has now taken over that spot. Perfect amount of dirty, perfectly chilled, with the most perfect blue cheese olives. Get it with Ketel One, I promise it’s better than Grey Goose.

We started with the sourdough bread and salted butter. Just trust me and get it - the bread was warm and crusty, super addicting. We did not get an appetizer, and again I really liked that our waiter didn’t push it. My husband got the American wagyu New York strip and I got the traditional filet. I appreciated that the béarnaise sauce came on the side, instead of drenching the steak. The steaks had a perfectly seasoned crust and were cooked to our desired temperatures. We could have tried every single side on the menu, but settled on the mac and cheese and button mushrooms. I would recommend both! I apologize for the crappy photo.

We ordered the carrot cake for dessert, along with French press coffee and a port. The coffee was just “okay” per my coffee snob husband. The carrot cake frosting (the best part of course) was a 10/10. The cake itself had a touch more ginger than we prefer.

The meal and service was outstanding. We will come back every and any chance we get. Maybe next time, we will order just all of their sides… ??

Had the Cesar salad, very crisp and zingy. Then came the aged ribeye, the texture and the taste was delicious and decadent… the Mac & cheese had a caramelized coat but under it was a gooy cheesy al dente pasta.. top the meal off was the perfect slice of chocolate cream pie… words can’t express the caliber of this dessert!
The very best part of our evening was our server Nicky! This fine and fabulous server catered to requests and was beyond pleased to assist us in making our meal beyond any dining experience.

Whether it's bone-in aged rib eye or bone-in filet mignon, both are surprisingly delicious. Oyster plump asparagus, cauliflower, grilled spinach (Side dish) red flowers and green leaves. After the meal, strawberry ice cream waterfall, carrot cake, dessert is perfectly satisfying!

Platonic ideal of a Chicago steakhouse. I've had nice nights and good steaks at shadow-on-the-cave-wall steak houses, but at Bavette's, I turned around and walked into the overwhelming light of steakhouse truth. The vibe on entering was timeless, the browns and oranges of low lighting on mahogany and baroque furniture. I could have been stepping back into the 20s or 50s (though happily with more diverse clientele). Cocktails were simple, classic, and perfectly executed. The cook on the steak could have been entered as the dictionary definition of medium rare (as ordered). I only wish I had more stomach space to have finished the excellent sides + ordered a lemon meringue pie for dessert. If I lived in Chicago, I'd be back often.

Truly an experience like no other. From the elegance and sophisticated beauty of the interior, the sexy intimate atmosphere, the tasty drinks, the delectable food and the phenomenal service from our bartenders and our server, Erica.
The food was quite possibly the best I’ve had in my entire life, and Erica added a real personal touch that I thoroughly enjoyed while also keeping it professional and elegant.
I am struggling to find the correct words to do this place justice. Absolutely 100000/10. From start to finish, top to bottom. Make this a priority, experience this place for yourself and you will not regret it.

Just thought I’d add we made reservations 3 weeks in advance!

We mistakenly made reservations for the Bavette's in Las Vegas for our anniversary. As luck would have it, however, they keep some open tables and even tho there was an 1 1/2 hour wait, they gave us a table immediately and treated us like royalty, including complimentary champagne. Our waitress, Tara, was magnificent. The steaks were the best steak we've ever had, also had chilled Maine lobster appetizer which had a beautiful presentation and tasted very fresh. Sides of mashed potatoes had roasted garlic, seasoned perfectly, husband had mushrooms which he said were perfect. Dessert was flourless chocolate cake with something creamy on top, --we were so full we took it home. Delish with coffee in the morning.

The whole restaurant vibe is elegant without being snooty. The music is perfect and isn't so loud you can't hear a conversation. There seems to be a lot of thought put into sounds absorption because everything was kind of muted, which added to the air of comfortable elegance. A lot of very nice restaurants are so noisy you just can't have a real conversation. Also, the lighting was so lovely.

We will be back.

I felt welcomed from the time I arrived at the valet. My wife and I arrived early for dinner, and they seated us right away. The Lobster Frites and Truffle Mac were delicious! The atmosphere and music set the tone for the evening. The service was exceptional! Overall 10/10
