What a pretty place and beautiful treats, leading to extremely disappointing service. We visited on a not too busy Saturday morning. The four of us ordered. I asked for the croissant with blueberries on top stating “not sure what it is called”. I checked out and we waited for our food. They brought me a blueberry scone. I asked them to please take the scone back and that’s where it really deteriorated. The staff was rude to me, made it way more complicated than it needed to be, were rude to other customers waiting to order, etc. I then asked for forks for our family and they were reluctant to give me one, I asked for four. Two members of the family had iced cinnamon rolls and ranked them as average. I never received any kindness from the staff as I apologized for the ordering misunderstanding. I don’t plan on returning

The food was well prepared, and the wait time was less than 5 minutes. We were attended quickly. The scenery is also lovely.

We ordered a sandwich with soup and a salad, neither of which required anything cooked to order. Soup and sandwich was $22, salad was $19 - + tax and tip. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. When we asked about it at minutes 25 and 35, they provided excuses: the four tables that arrived after us were eating because their food was premade; there's only one person assembling lunches. What we didn't get was an apology or attention. At no point did anyone check on us or explain the delay. One staff person sniped at us because the 30 seconds spent listening to our complaint was too long. The very first words out of her mouth should have been "I'm sorry." When the food arrived after a 45 minute wait, it was good but not exceptional nor worth the price. The meal was prepaid and no one offered a refund or discount. They did not even drop off a few cookies as apology. There are plenty of better run places for sandwiches and salads that appreciate their customers.

The customer service here was non-existent. Thus, my friend and I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience. We came to Bittersweet on a Tuesday for lunch. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive. We ordered one salad and one soup & sandwich. Nothing had to be cooked. Prior to the 45 minutes, my friend went up to the counter twice to inquire why our items were taking so long. Especially, since everyone who came in after us had already received their food. No one could give her an answer and said they would check into it. During the 45 minutes, not one employee came to our table to give us updates or apologize for the delay. One employee was rude to my friend when she was trying to explain why we were frustrated. We almost walked out to go elsewhere, but we had already paid. Considering this is a bakery, they could have at least offered us some baked goods in good faith. The food was good but pricey. There are better options in the neighborhood. I would not recommend this cafe, for they don't care about their customers and in providing good service.

Love, love, love the glass panel doors just wait6 to be opened for the outdoors sitting experience. An inviting combination of Minimalist, natural location with a burst of color withe the beautiful wall mural. The carnitas quiche was served warm and cheesey, sharable portion, and tasted like we made the right choice. Just delicious!!Peanut butter chocolate torte, wafer bottom w/mousse texture was creamy and again a well balanced treat.Cinnamon roll was tasty, well-balanced with the icing, cinnamon and dough. The icing was velvety deliciousness, and to not too sweet. The Mint tea was served in the carafe, flavor brought me back to Christmas candy canes, ?Pistachio-orange hot latte w/oak milk, was beautifully served. Maybe the oat milk over powered the pistachio-orange flavor, because the flavor notes did not come through for me.Looking forward to enjoy the outdoor seating and summer menu.

Now open 7 days a week!! This Lakeview institution has new hours and I couldn't be happier. I don't have to wait until mid week to get my pastry fix. Also the new partnership with celeb Chef Katsuji could be interesting. Can't wait to visit the new Pilsen location. But for now happy sipping my Metropolis coffee on a bar seat overlooking the window & nibbling the best tart cherry clafoutis in town.

After the renovation, their grand selection is no longer grand. I miss their huge assortment of cookies. That said, their pastries took over and they are not to par as they are dry. Sadly this translates to a no return for me.

Love coming here on my way to work. They have a pastry menu that includes a variety of baked goods and chef's specialties. I tried their ube croissant once and it was the best croissant I've had! The coffee here makes me happy. My favorite is their Chocolate Strawberry Latte, both hot and iced! Adding another star for the awesome staff here!!

Sucks when your own ppl are willing to help gentrify so they can profit off the downfall of a community. Owner doesn't even have a background in food or service. You're nothing but vultures. Stay in

My review is for a chocolate bday cake. The service and atmosphere were excellent. Now to the cake….. it was extremely sweet. Like not even my 5 year old finished his small piece. No one wanted seconds. Its was disappointing, specially because everything else was executed to perfection with this cake. It was moist, well baked and delicately decorated to perfection, higher quality ingredients (yes, we bake and can tell good quality ingredients when we taste a cake). It should be noted that we are not “Sugarless warriors” we eat sugar and there were different households at this party so it was a good sample size for the sweetness of the cake and almost everyone agreed that it was way too sweet. So now I have 3/4 of a cake in the fridge that no one wants. I did also buy the ube flan and ube white chocolate croissant and they were amazing.

Beautiful place. If I went here everyday, I'd be broke. Do I go here everyday? Pretty much. Matcha latte is on point - hot or iced. Americano is strong. All the sweets on display are so pretty. I've only tried the ube croissant so far, and it tastes just how it looks - like fire!

Unfortunately I have to echo what a few others have said-- it's not the same. I ordered some cupcakes for my daughter's birthday (and while they tasted delicious) the process of ordering a few simple pastel colored frosted cupcakes left little to be desired. Stick to what's available in store and avoid a custom order, not worth the headache.

What a darling, yummy place! Everyone was so kind from the moment we entered. Just a friendly atmosphere. I loved the clean look of the furniture and walls. There's a little pastry window and display from which to choose your desserts. The menu is simple-breakfast quiches, lunch sandwiches and soups. My daughter ordered the club sandwich which came with delicious fresh fruit-strawberries, pineapple, raspberries and blueberries. The bacon was cooked perfectly and there was lots of avocado too. Such a yummy sandwich. I ordered the ham and Gruyère quiche with a side salad. The dressing was light and simple. For dessert we split a peanut butter chocolate torte which was really good. Is definitely return if I ever find myself in this part of Chicago.
