I went into caffe Umbria with my 25$ gift card on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. I was told that they didn’t use this gift card anymore and I was told the best they could do was check my balance to see if it had 25$ and I would get a call back soon to let me how much was left. I left my gift card and phone number in faith that they would do the right thing. But I never received a call back, I called on December 13, 2025. I spoke to a manager, Christos, that said the best they could do was $10 for my gift card. This is extremely frustrating and unacceptable, especially given the fact that the gift card is 25$. I was told that I could email this manager and he would forward my email to whomever was in charge. My family, friends and I have been customers for a long time but apparently that doesn’t matter but no one has contacted me. This place is a rep off and doesn’t care about it’s customers

I live up north of the city and have often driven all the way here just for a cortado. The coffee at this spot has always been amazing, and for a long time it felt worth the trip. There used to be a real attention to craft—one barista in particular stood out for being both friendly and meticulous, making drinks with genuine care.

Unfortunately, my recent visits haven’t lived up to that standard. Today, the customer service felt cold, and the cortado wasn’t anywhere near what it used to be. For a place that isn’t cheap, you expect consistency and a level of service that matches the price.

I never minded the drive before, but now I’m questioning the reason. Chicago has so many great options, and I’m passing multiple spots just to get here. Unless things improve, I may have to rethink whether this cafe is still worth the detour.

I recently visited and was disappointed by the lack of clarity regarding their dog policy. Although our service dog was initially welcomed, we were later told he needed to stay in his bag. Unfortunately, multiple staff members gave us conflicting information, leaving us to navigate the confusion.

While the staff was very nice, It would have been more helpful if the staff were on the same page about their dog policy from the start. A clear communication approach would have made our experience much smoother. As it stands, it felt like we were caught in the middle, which was frustrating. I hope they can improve their communication in the future.

What happened?! I used to come here all the time during covid era, moved away, then came back and it seems like this place has really lost it’s niche.

Each coffee mod is $1. Thus a latte with syrup, alt milk and a quiche was $17!!! That’s quite the price jump.

There were 6 staff members all kind of just standing around. The person who took my order seemed very disinterested.

I miss the old Cafe Umbria. I know that costs may keep the prices high, but kindly consider adjusting coffee mod prices and staff behavior.

Bacon & chive quiche was the best I’ve had. Honestly the Cholula shouldn’t even be an option.

Vegan chocolate donut was very balanced and not overly sweet with a great texture to boot.

Cold brew was smooth, aromatic, and made me feel like doing jumping jacks.

Staff was friendly and the place is very cool aesthetically.

$20 before tip for the 3 items.

Favorite coffee joint in the neighborhood. Everyone there is super friendly. Music is immaculate. Perfect little outdoor area too in the summer. Every donut slaps too. 10/10.

This caffè is on the Pareto Frontier of caffè. You can change the form, but you cannot exceed the overall quality.

I mean I get the appeal if you want to watch the coffee beans being roasted that's cool. But if you're thinking about getting any work done here I think that's pretty much impossible. It's loud af bc of the roaster, and there's little to no seating. The seating is not meant for a person to sit for more than 20 minutes. The coffee and food was mid as well in my opinion and the cashier was on her phone so she forgot my food like??? I got a croissant and a medium latte and it was about $16 for reference as well

Stopped by here with family while we were out and about. It wasn't too busy which was nice. I ordered a chai latte and it was pretty good. Not living in Chicago, I've been surprised at how few places carry skim milk. It's not the biggest deal but it still surprises me every time I am here (which is often) that most coffee shops don't offer skim milk. They had a GF carrot muffin, which was ok. It felt a little undercooked. But the flavor overall was pretty good. We sat for awhile and enjoyed our drinks. Overall good experience, not great.
