This place consistently delivers some of the most original and divinely delicious small plates anywhere in the City. The price point is insanely reasonable & the atmosphere is unpretentious. I keep coming back & there is always something item on the menu i have never eaten before and it is oh soooo good!

We are nondrinkers for health reasons and when we looked at the menu, we realized this wasn’t friendliest place for us to go if we wouldn’t be drinking wine. They had no nonalcoholic beverage options beyond sparkling water (not even coffee or tea), which was disappointing and surprising. We felt that the service we received was subpar relative to the other tables as a result of us not drinking, unfortunately. We did enjoy the food, but did find a ton of bones in the fish, making it very difficult to eat.If you are a wine drinking, I’m sure you’ll very much enjoy this place (they had a great selection!). If you’re not, I’d consider passing.

Amazing! This is the first time I've ever been shocked by how good the desserts are! Truly live up to the expectations for Michelin recommendations!

I really wanted to like Cellar Door. I've been looking forward to trying it since I moved to Chicago. So I was elated to grab a reservation on my birthday. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the hype. The good: The burger is a must order and was legitimately one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. (After taking off the large piece of raw Fresno chili pepper that was inedibly spicy.) It's the only reason I gave this place two stars at all. The bad: The service was a little off for the price point. I asked to hear more about some menu items that didn't have descriptions, and our server didn't seem comfortable talking us through them. She basically just read the menu to us. She also didn't seem to know the wine list very well. I like natural wine, but the recommendation she gave didn't really fit the tasting I was told. (I was nervous and said it was fine, but we finished only about 3/4 of the bottle.) Also, two of us got butter knives in our silverware roll, and one person got a steak knife. So when our lamb arrived, we all had to share a steak knife. It was awkward. The ugly: Some of the dishes were almost inedible. The whole roasted onion sounded really exciting but was actually kind of raw. So I ended up with an upset stomach from crunching raw onion slices. (It also wasn't a whole onion's worth, but that's whatever.) We really tried to eat it but left most of it on the plate. The "grilled" mackerel was probably the biggest disappointment. You can see in the picture how big the $28 piece was, compared to the lemon slice. It was also very thin. Only the skin was grilled. The rest was smoked or preserved and so fishy it tasted unpleasant/off. And I love mackerel. We took a tiny taste and left the entire dish there. It seemed like there was only one server for the whole dining room. (Which was quiet but had a nice ambiance.) Some wine refills took several courses to arrive. We wanted to ask about taking the mackerel off our bill since we barely touched it, but it took so long to get our server's attention that we were running late and just needed to go. Our server moved the untouched dish out of the way to set down our bill, but didn't bother to ask why we were leaving with multiple plates of food and glasses of wine still left. Overall, it was a very disappointing $270 birthday meal. They didn't even mention my birthday, which isn't required but would be nice at that price point.

Probably the first restaurant I’ve been to where the drinks were light years better than the food. Dishes left a lot to be desired. Staff was nice.

The burger was amazing. Did not expect this. The tortellini was also delicious. The host made excellent wine recommendations. We'll definitely be back.

I dream of this restaurant. It’s a niche craft restaurant with a deep appreciation for local produce. Their menu and dining room is simple which adds to the experience. Their dishes are boasting with flavor and it transports me to Europe where the tomatoes actually taste like tomatoes. If you have an elevated palate you will appreciate Cellar Door Provisions. 10/10. One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago

We all left underwhelmed and confused by all of the positive reviews - we must have been in a different restaurant. Course by course it was decent and then for a finale, the whole quail - returned not once but twice for being served uncooked - I mean raw on the inside. Apology from anyone? Nope. Michelin guide, you must reconsider.

Overall the food is quite good and unique. The gnocchi was freshly made and cooked well. They have a great selection of natural wines that is priced appropriately. The service is the weakness here, mainly due to understaffing. Most of the waitstaff seems to also have kitchen jobs. For example, my table’s waitress also was making the gnocchi in btw orders. This resulted in getting dishes 45 min to 1 hr after you order them. They really need to fix this issue to move to the next level. Also, they charge some undisclosed service fee on the tab as the pre-tax/tip total is not equivalent to the total value of the things you order.

Had been meaning to eat here for years. Great wine, great service. Perfect vibe inside. Food is underprepared and underseasoned. I understand the fresh and vegetable-forward approach, but at points it didn't feel like the kitchen had done more than deposited some ingredients on a plate and sent it out to be served.

I’m not sure what is happening at Cellar Door provisions. The service was so slow it took 20 minutes to even get a beverage we decided not to even tempt ordering more than an appetizer. (Which was a salad and bread that took an additional 20 minutes) The kitchen staff was moving at a glacial pace that left us baffled. It did not seem like the servers knew how to help either. Such a disappointing way to spend a Saturday evening. Left hungry.

Was looking forward to eating at Cellar Door! Put name in and had around a 90 minute wait (7pm on a Saturday night). This wasn't entirely unexpected.Food was very tasty, but was a bit disappointed with the limited menu when we were eventually seated. The restaurant runs out of food throughout the night, and we were limited to only a few types of salads, polenta, and cooked peppers. We did have a wonderful bottle of Orange wine which was truly unique.Food and wine was delicious, however I wouldn't go back due to the time we spent there (3 hours) for limited food options.
