The sushi in the Backroom is amazing, and the service was top notch! The bar was hopping and the owner was super friendly, involved and made sure we were well taken care of and chatted with us, which was cool. The owner may remember us - Go Yankees! But seriously, for a date night, or outing with friends, some of the best sashimi I've had in a long time. Check them out!
Craft cocktails with spirits distilled on site? How can one go wrong?
Stopped in for a few yummy drinks. Staff was very friendly and so nice. Great atmosphere and vibe.
We decided on the tableside omakase, sake flight, oysters and the aged salmon. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch by Chikay. We'd highly recommend dining here and would love to come back!
I haven't eaten at every sushi restaurant in Chicago, but I'll hazard that Jinsei Motto is the best: fresh, nuanced, beautifully presented. And it achieves this without (like some places), stooping to gimmickry: some places traffic in smoke (literally) and mirrors, but JM has the well-founded confidence to keep it simple and rely on the freshness and thoughtful ingenuity of its dishes. Despite its out-of-the-way location and minimal curb appeal, once you enter, the surroundings are tasteful, comforting, and, that most rare of dining commodities, quiet. The service is spot-on: available, but not forceful, and never trying to upsell, but full of helpful recommendations without an air of attitude. And the tab does not make you gasp. What more could anyone ask for? Honestly, I don't know why you would seek out sushi anywhere else in Chicago. It is now our hands down go-to!
Excellent authentic japanese omakase experience with highly skilled sophistication of the food overall, well made explanation of every step, special appreciation with the sitting at the bar. We loved the proposed sake fitting perfectly. Great experience.
The omakase experience here was amazing! We've been to several places in Chicago and this was our favorite. The dry-aging of the fish really helps make the fish taste fresher than a lot of the other omakase's in Chicago. The chef was lovely and interacted with us as well, making this a fun dinner.
Fabulous cocktails. Spicy tuna rolls better than I've ever had. Can be loud with the music, but great service and menu!

Fish was not as fresh or flavorful as other sushi I've had. Some cuts were way too salty, others were bland. Overall, felt like it was not worth the price. The chef does a good job of explaining, but I noticed his sleeves touch the cuts of fish while he was making them and putting them on the plates, which made me think the chef was not as cautious or careful. The server was friendly, but for a highly rated restaurant and for the price, I had higher expectations.

The omakase experience at Jinsei Motto was excellent. The service at the CH Distillery Bar5before we went into Jinsei Motto was bad. We sit at the bar to get drinks before we head into Jinsei Motto, and the bartender was quite rude with an attitude. She acted as if it was a pain to serve us. We had to flag her down a couple of times just to order drinks. She consistently left the bar and disappeared for long stretches. We had to, again, flag her down just to pay for our drinks, and someone else had to come by to check us out because she wasn't there. When we initially sat down, she immediately rolled her eyes at us. I am not sure if her attitude and treatment towards us was because we are black, but it definitely made for an uncomfortable situation.
INCREDIBLE omasake experience. It's worth the splurge if you love sushi. Our chef explained each course and each piece melted in your mouth, and each bite was unique. The service was also incredible. Definitely recommend
Looking for the BEST sushi in Chicago? Look no further. Jinsie Motto will blow you away! Incredibly fresh/high quality fish, great service, and a robust sake selection! The service is phenomenal, and the servers truly are subject matter experts in sake selection & recommending dishes that will impress your tastebuds. Try it once and I guarantee you won't try a different sushi place in Chicago!
This was me and my family first time ever doing a Omakase Bar experience and I have to say it was just incredible. Our sushi chef Alex was extremely knowledgeable and was fascinating to watch his skills at work. The rest of the servers where extremely on top of everything and we had an amazing sake recommendation. Will definitely be back!
My friend and I really had a good time there. It was our first time having omakase and it was a good experience. Food and service were above an beyond. We will definitely come back again!
