I recently visited Chants Restaurant with friends from out of town, hoping to show them the area by sitting at the window. Unfortunately, despite the restaurant being largely empty, the manager, Thomas, refused our request to sit by the window. I found his attitude dismissive and the customer service lacking, especially given that there were plenty of open tables.
While I have always enjoyed the food at Chants, this experience left me disappointed. Good food is important, but so is feeling welcomed as a customer. It’s unfortunate that such a simple request was handled so poorly. I’m not sure I’ll be returning after this .

Chant is one of my favs to visit. This time was a miss. The food was very salty. We returned it for another and it came salty too. Drinks were good and we could talk and hear because it was pretty empty. If it wasn't empty you would hear your conversation s well.

We ate here for dinner twice during a very short trip because it was just so good! The food is fresh, delicious and great serving sizes. There are great options for vegetarians and meat eaters. The drinks are terrific, too. We also had great service both times and really enjoyed the decor of this restaurant. Highly recommend!!

The fried rice is to die for, I love it. I had mine with shrimp. The wings were delicious. The drinks were good. The crab cakes were not that great, definitely seemed like they were cooked from frozen and too mushy for my liking.

I ordered a half of jerk chicken dinner and they gave me 2 pieces of chicken and said it was a half of chicken….. who does that? Everyone knows that a half of chicken is more than 2 pieces. They didn’t want to accommodate me so I sad I’m not paying $22 for 2 pieces of chicken. Take it back. This is disappointing… who are you saving food for when it’s only 10 people in the restaurant????? This place is too empty for the nonsense….
Really like the fusion menu and the atmosphere but the waiter forgot orders and said they were out of hamburgers ... not good. The food is worth going back for but on that waiter's day off.

From Cheers to Caution: A Night Out at Chantz
I recently visited Chantz in Hyde Park and had an overall enjoyable experience — though it ended on a disappointing note.
The atmosphere was vibrant but not overcrowded, and the live band added a great energy to the evening. My sister and I were seated comfortably, and the service initially was attentive and friendly. I ordered my go-to drink, hot sake — specifically the Black & Gold, which is always a favorite. My sister had a chocolate martini, which she really enjoyed.
Our bartender, Eric, was pleasant and very engaging throughout the night. However, the experience took a turn when he offered us shots of tequila after we had both declined another round of drinks. He insisted, saying he wanted us to “have a good time tonight,” and asked what kind of tequila we liked. I again said I was okay, but he still poured two shots of Don Julio Blanco, complete with lime and salt.
We assumed it was a complimentary gesture — especially since we never asked for it — so we went ahead and took the shots. We continued enjoying the music and finished our meals. My sister had the birria tacos, which were absolutely delicious. I had the egg rolls, which were underseasoned until I tried the sweet chili sauce — that finally gave them the kick they needed.
But the real disappointment came when I asked for the bill and noticed the tequila shots had been added to the tab. It caught me off guard. What if I hadn’t had the funds for those shots? We didn’t request them, and it felt misleading.
I didn’t raise a fuss at the time, but it did leave a sour taste in my mouth — literally and figuratively. If this is standard practice at Chantz, it’s something worth reconsidering.
Overall, I give my experience a 6 out of 10. Great ambiance, solid music, mostly good food — but questionable service choices left me hesitant to return.

So... great atmosphere, especially when there is live music, but I do wish the food offered more. I've had noodles before and they are always oddly sweet, and I wish the portions were a bit bigger on them. But I do think it is worth it overall.
