This place is the real hidden gem for Japanese food in Chicago. We fly back to Japan every year, and Cocoro is the most authentic food you will find outside of travelling there. This place is perfect if you are looking for authentic, unpretentious, traditional Japanese food in a super cozy environment. Incredible food, personable service, authentic atmosphere. I took a date here just days before Christmas Eve and had an amazing experience. The ginkgo nuts and authentic rolls especially stand out, as did the mango shrimp roll. Definitely a place worth a return trip.
Possibly the most true to Japanese cuisine I had in Chicago. Reminds me of mom n pop restaurant with a little bit of everything from ramen, sushi and bento boxes. My favorite would be their long list of izakaya style appetizers and nabe. Also the oldschool coffee jelly is available!
