My family and I have purchased food from here over the course of 10+ years for special occasions. About 2 weeks ago, we ordered about $230 dollars worth of food for a special occasion. We ordered several dishes and noticed that the dishes containing chicken were undercooked as some of the chicken was pink. We figured we wouldn't complain about this and give them a break. HOWEVER the chile rellano dish we ordered had a piece of plastic wrapper mixed in with the sauce. Please see image added. I contacted the restaurant and explained the situation to the manager named Brisa who apologized and stated she knew where the plastic wrapper came from. The plastic wrapper was where the chile rellano was originally packaged in and explained that due to it being busy, the cooks overlooked disposing of the plastic wrapper correctly and it somehow ended up in our food. She offered to refund us for the dish and I chose to not complain about the other chicken dishes that were undercooked. That dish has yet to be refunded. I have called several times asking to speak to the manager but I was being told by staff that she wasn't in however my message would get passed along. Finally today, I was able to get in contact with a manager named Carina and explained the situation and inquired when my refund would be processed. She stated she would reach out to their accountant to process the refund and I asked if there was anything more they could do as we've been waiting weeks on a refund for the dish that had a big piece of plastic wrapper. Carina stated that mistakes happen and all she would do is refund me for the dish.. Offering a discount from my bill would definitely have been appreciated as this was a choking hazard and I had to follow up several times a week to get a manager to process the refund of $22.. this overall was a bad experience because I've had to call several times to ask for the dish to be refunded with no avail. customer service lacks at this location.

Maybe it's the weather, maybe I'm spoiled but I really didn't feel like the food was extra wow and the atmosphere was quiet, there was a mariachi trio and they did sing 2 songs for us. They are independent from the restaurant so their fee was $75! Luckily, we have a money tree in our back yard, not. So, be prepared to pay for a serenata!!

This is one honest review. Every year the quality of the food keeps getting worse and worse. At one point Coculas was the staple for family dinners and special occasions. But now as of 2025 it’s horrible! We ordered the taco dinner and nachos with steak. The chopped meat / asada is the lowest quality I have tried! Does not taste fresh or of quality. If you want quality asada for tacos or asada on nachos Zacatacos is the better choice! So disappointed will definitely not order again. Don’t waste your money.

Carne en su jugo was good, but restaurant not clean, our seats not wiped & crumbs on corners of cushions, table looked untidy as well. Small spoons for soup.

El Cocula has kinda become the spot I come to for special occasions. It’s always the same, nice and quiet, that Mexican hacienda vibe, and sometimes the live mariachi walking around the tables just makes it feel even better.

I went with the bistec a la mexicana… oh man, I haven’t had that in a really long time. Skirt steak simmered in a mild tomato sauce, with the bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes. The steak itself was juicy and tender, not tough at all, and it soaked up the sauce so every bite had that mix of smoky meat and the slight sweetness from the tomato. The peppers still had a little bite to them, not mushy, which I liked. The rice was fluffy and the beans were creamy and smooth, just the kind that makes the plate feel complete.

Honestly, I need to start coming here more often. Between the food, the vibe, and the friendly staff, it always feels like a good choice.

Steak were cooked twice the dryness affected flavor. Corn tortilla not made in house. BREADED SHRIMP very dry. Beans were tasted americanized. Mixed drinks were made very well. Servers were quick and friendly. Plenty of free parking. Need help on food quality has dropped in recent years likely cooking to fast and reheating meats.
