This place is pretty unique on argyle in that it serves a lot of items other than the typical pho and spring rolls. You can get Mi Quang and Bun Bo Hue which isn’t widely available in Chicago. Both have a bit more flavor than pho and worth a try. They also serve several apps/street food items that are not common here like the banh khot and bun cha, both are excellent here. For drinks they do have the egg coffee which is a very authentic item. I think Hai sous is the only other place in the city that got it. Come here if you want to try Vietnamese food that is not available at typical pho places.

Walked in today looking to try their coffee and the guy behind the counter gave me a dirty look and asked what I wanted - which was really off putting considering they're always closed whenever I walk by and I've been wanting to come here for a while. When I said I just wanted coffee he snipped "we're closed today you should have read the sign on the door." Again incredibly unpleasant when not necessary - if you're closed, then lock the doors so people can't enter. Not the way someone would expect to be treated especially when going out of their way to try to support a small, local business. Really disappointing that this is how they talk to people

Takeout review! was hoping the reviews about the oiliness were one-offs but the broth was hella oily i got the brisket pho and they rly skimped out on the meat. Not a pho connoisseur by any means but this didn’t compare to the pho back at home in Houston that has a huge Viettown.

I live on Argyle so have tried almost every Vietnamese restaurant on this street (also have traveled to different parts of Vietnam!) and this is definitely my favorite place for pho 1) The broth is tasty and salty (a more pure flavor and not too sweet like some other spots), 2) The meat is good e.g. rare and brisket meats are tender, tendon pieces aren't too big etc 3) lastly and most importantly, they use the slightly wider rice noodles (more of a fettuccine width), I think are typically found in North Vietnam/Hanoi.

I have been in constant search of these noodles all over Chicago and I'm SO excited to finally find them. If you love the silky, soft texture of rice noodles, you will love this.

They also have an authentic egg coffee. Almost too sweet so it's definitely a treat - the perfect combination of sweet, frothy and indulgent with a very strong coffee flavor and ice.

Seeing another table's food, their meat and rice dishes look very decent so I'm very curious to try more.

I was starving and really excited for pho but my experience at DaNang was so disappointing. Their Pho Dac Biet does not contain tripe (my favorite), the noodles were thick and flat instead of the thin bouncy, chewy rice noodles you normally get in pho, and the broth lacked the complexity of flavors you can find in many other places nearby. It was also a small bowl with little meat - definitely not worth the $20 for mediocre pho. Additionally, there was a family with screaming kids and for some reason the host sat all the diners right next to them.

This is one of the worst meals I’ve had in recent memory. We ordered a drink and two entrees. The drink took almost half an hour to come out, and the entrees took almost a full hour. One entree came out 15 minutes before the second, so my partner was done with her food before I started mine. The chicken I ordered was so dry it was almost like jerky, and the salad my partner ate gave her horrible food poisoning, I’m assuming it wasn’t cleaned properly. STAY AWAY.

The food here is very good and authentic to Vietnamese food! The lady in charge has very good service and has no complaints with any request you may have. It’s usually busy during the noon time, so I recommend coming in early. I recommend eating the banh khot here as an appetizer!

DaNang kitchen highlights are definitely dishes from the central region. Hen banh da was delicious and would have been perfect/authentic with some Vietnamese coriander. Bun tom nuong was decent with really juicy and flavorful shrimp though I would like to see more herbs. Unfortunately, the portion of these two dishes were quite small. Com tam dac biet was huge and my favorite was the pork meatloaf. The grilled meat could have been smokier and a bit more salted. I would probably try more central region dishes on my next visit.
