Seeing that we had been in New Orleans three months ago, we were both craving some NOLA or Cajun-style cuisine, so we decided on NOLA hot dogs. When we arrived, though, we found a hand-written sign on the door from the owners, stating that they were closing. The phone number has been disconnected.

Ordered a bunch of dogs to share. There were definitely some stand out favorites and some others that could have done without certain toppings. I’d say the build your own would be the way to go, but they seem to really skimp on the toppings when you do it that way. Definitely cannot be compared to Hot Doug’s as they don’t make their own, and some of the dogs stand out as being better than others. Stop in and try it for yourself!!

If you've been to Dat Dog in NOLA, then Doggone's will feel like you're visiting it's sibling up north. Nothing like a crayfish dog when you're feeling like Cajun food. Get the NOLA dog, it's both delicious and authentic.

Unfortunately this joint consistently comes up short. I have tried it three times and quality declined along with level of service. Buns to sausage ratio was extremely unbalanced. Nothing had much flavor, even a Chicago dog was bland. I don't expect them to last which sucks because I really wanted it to be great and visit every day.

If you want amazing quality, artisan hot dogs at a great price point then this convenient location is for you. It's on the corner, with lots of street parking, which is inexpensive. So many different options for the hotdogs, even including crawfish! The Nola dog, and the Chicago dog were the two I tried and I was absolutely blown away.

I went to this place around the time it first opened they sold me chili cheese fries then told me they didn't have any cheese they gave me a credit.

It's good for what it is-a hotdog joint. Lovely topping presentation. Very fresh veggies toppings with a generous proportion

Being born and raised in Chicago I only knew of Vienna hot dogs. It was a surprising treat to know there's so many options. The place is nice and welcoming. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a gourmet hot dog.

This review is not about the frozen fries warmed in a microwave, the soap taste in the glasses, the acceptable Chicago-style hot dog, or the curious ň in jalapeño, but about the prices of the Chef's Specials: six out of the ten cost more as a special than if you just built them yourself! Another is the same price and another saves you just 5¢. Am I paying for the store's expertise in designing a sausage combination? Were they not paying attention? Are they trying to take advantage of people's disinclination to do simple arithmetic? It might be the latter, given that they try to squeeze out your last 20¢ on toppings that most places give you for free, e.g. ketchup, mustard, onions, relish. Although they don't charge you for the ketchup in squeeze bottles on the table. The one saving grace in terms of prices is that the Kid's Dog is just the regular Beef Wiener with ketchup on top, but is a dollar cheaper. It's not clear if you can get the ketchup on the side. The man behind the counter was nice!

Let me start by saying that I have visited every Dat Dog in the New Orleans area (including the one that used to be in the Lakeview Mall) and I've never had a bad experience. The man that owned Dat Dog opened Doggone's. When my family visited Doggone's, we were expecting a similar experience, but maybe a twist on the Chicago dog, but holy crap were we wrong. After we ordered, we nearly waited 40 minutes for our food. We thought, "No big deal. They just opened so they are still getting the kinks out." Then they forgot my etouffee fries. I didn't get them until after they served everyone in our group (there was 10 of us) and we were done eating. They forgot my sister-in-law's order which was just 1 thing of etouffee fries. She was the first person to order her food and she got them after half our party received their orders. Also, etouffee is a brown sauce. It is similar to brown gravy. The etouffee that we were given was white and chunky. I wish I had taken a picture of it because it was comical. At first I wouldn't eat it, but my husband tried the etouffee first and said it was okay. I know I gave this place a bad review, but I have to say that the wait staff was pleasant. They were nice and you could tell that they were trying to do a good job. I am willing to give this restaurant another try the next time I visit Chicago. I had high hopes for this establishment since the New Orleans sister locations are fantastic, but wow - they have some MAJOR kinks to work out. Good luck.

Loved the Nola Dog and its a killer and spicy but hit the right notes for my taste palette. Owners Skip and Sam are terrific and love to engage with customers all the time . That title of Hot Dog king of the UK is a big hit here in the U. S. also Skip is the the man when it comes to Louisiana style sausages ... You must try this place out and get some Abita Nola Blonde or TurboDog beer Louisiana style and kick back and enjoy Chicago's newest Exotic Sausage palace fit for a king .

I love hot dogs and I love New Orleans food so I'm pretty much the guy this place was made for. I tried the NOLA Dog and the Andouille sauce fries. The NOLA Dog is Crawfish dog topped with étouffée, sour cream, Creole mustard, onions and tomatoes. They panini the buns. It was tasty and quite evocative of a plate of Crawfish étouffée. There were nice little chunks of andouille sausage in the sauce my fries were topped with giving it a gentle heat. I do wish the fries were a bit crispier. Overall, not a bad place to go when you're missing Hot Doug's.

Great hot dog place in the neighborhood with friendly staff and byob casual atmosphere. The dogs are great, I had the NOLA and one other. The bun is what makes it. Very flavorful and good sausages have good snap. I will be back soon to try their other options and sides. Can't wait.

Tried a few hot dog spots and this place is the BOMB! As far as gourmet dogs go, this place has helped fill the hole in my heart (and belly) that Hot Doug's left. Creative options, on point execution aaannndd plenty of vegan options for my non-meat eating friends.
