Charming little shop with the most delicious doughnuts.
Great donuts!
Best doughnuts in Chicago that we have tried. Both yeast and cake doughnuts were exceptional. Lemon poppyseed tasted like real lemon — most places hold back on lemon flavoring, but not the Vault. When you order ahead (which you should), “order ahead” vs “order today” is a little confusing, so be careful.
Great little doughnut spot. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. The buttermilk old fashioned was great, my second favorite in the city. Truly can't wait to go back.
Best donut, best people
This little nook has it all; charm, the vibe, and a feel of finding a secret place. If you can find this space it's definitely a place to stop and try.
They were down to 3 flavors for the day by the time i got there at 11am. The plain glazed, the almond, and lemon poppy. All 3 get flying marks for flavor. Definitely retaining moisture, not too sweet and balances well with a good cup of coffee.
Almond glaze felt like a bite of marzipan and the lemon poppy tart and zesty. Honestly impressed with their flavors on the glaze.
Only downfall for me, is the realization that I like a good fluffy donut, which old fashioned is not. But I would want their glaze on any donut any day.
Best donut in the city is the glazed yeast, order ahead because they sell out

it is delicious!! I ordered old fashion chocolate and birthday vanilla and both were really delicious!! It’s the most delicious donut I’ve ever had!! Next time I come to Chicago, I will definitely eat there again. I've been to other donut shops, but I like this one better. I liked it better because the male employee at the checkout counter was humorous and friendly. I had a good start in the morning~

This place is overhyped, just because of the limited availability. I tried the glazed donut and the chocolate. There was nothing special about them. Very similar to a donut you can get at any gas station. Because the donut’s were more dense than what I prefer, and I just did not enjoy them that much.

Literally a hole in the wall, but in the best way possible! Donuts are delicious and the experience is really fun! They do sell out quickly, so it’s best to go as early as you can.

Perfection!
The chocolate glazed yeast doughnut was SUPER SOFT and pillowy and the glaze was delicious. The vanilla birthday cake was also delicious. The old fashioned’s are a little more cakey than the do-rite equivalent.
Service was awesome. It was a freezing cold December day and they let me bring my dog in and gave her a cookie. Will definitely be back!

9 years later and still my favorite doughnuts! I was visiting Chicago and decided I would have a fat girl moment by ordering the lemon pistachio, almond and lemon poppyseed old fashioned doughnuts along with a strawberry glazed doughnut. The strawberry was ridiculously large and was not as flavorful as the old fashioned selections. Although I am a huge fan of pistachio, the lemon poppyseed and almond stole my heart! I recently ordered Stan's and while they still rank high on my list, they do not come close to doughnut vault.
I was also very happy to see that you can place your order on-line via Tock, instead of tempting fate and hoping they are not sold out or waiting in a crazy long line which is what I used to do.
Amazing to see that the Hogsalt group still has a firm grip on Chicago!
