Gaoku Izakaya & Craft Drinks is a hidden gem in Chicago with one of the best mixology programs in the city. The miso hot buttered rum is a must-try, packed with amazing flavors. The karaage chicken and sakura pork salad are delicious, and the chirashi-don is also recommended. The house shrubs are excellent, made with fresh ingredients. The food and drinks are well-made with attention to detail, like the grilled pork shoulder and scallop dish. The matcha tiramisu is a perfect, not-too-sweet dessert. The Oka-san and Bad, Bad man drinks are dangerously crushable. The atmosphere is inviting and lively, with great service. A great addition to the neighborhood, Gaoku is a place worth visiting regularly.
