Good Vietnamese food. I have dined with them many times. I like their spring rolls and Vietnamese Iced Coffee.

Amazing food. We tried many vietnamese in Chicago area and this is by far the best. We are looking forward to coming here again!

Service is good and they are staffed up for lunch time. My dry style hu tieu with the tomato/fish/shrimp sarsa was insane. Chased with a thoughtful sidebroth of gio, and finished with a crisp sugacane juice. Under $25, given the sugarcane juice is damn well $10 (well worth it.) But either item is worth a visit at Hai Yen. Can't wait to try their mam this weekend... or just more of what I just had.!

Located right off the red line ,(however, the red line appeared under construction). Took a while to find but paid for street parking.

The interior is inviting with comfortable chairs. The menu had some usual Vietnamese options and some unique ones that I haven’t tried before.

We tried the self wrap, beef ( the first one on that list ). The waiter suggested we also get the vermicelli, which was a good suggestion too. as recommended from another reviewer, we got the anchovy sauce. All very nice and nice to creat your own wrap with the rice paper they provide with all the herbs. We also got the bo luc lac (beef filet with veggies ) - this was okay. We got seafood noodle for the little kids but they seemed to like the pho with brisket and steak.

Wouldn’t mind returning to try other dishes.

Buried in the middle of the famous Argyle block, this place may not jump out against newer and shinier establishments nearby, but there is a good reason this place has lasted a long time. The broth for beef pho is just as good as others, which is a reason enough to eat here. But add good service, liquor license, and consistently fresh ingredients and you have a great place for take out.

This Argyle stalwart has a dish of note. The beef wrapped and grilled in betel leaf is the standout for me. They accomplish other dishes just fine but the Bò Lá Lôt is the one worth going for. The dish comes with rice paper, lettuce, herbs, and pickles to justify the price and makes it a fully realized plate. I personally could eat the little wieners all day by themselves but when it comes with fixins I have to call it a meal. The dining room as a calm feel, the staff are friendly and a little quirky. The continuity of the decor sets the tone allowing for a peaceful meal, the watercolors of Vietnamese life have a bright and playful air that elevates the tranquil environment nicely. As the robotic Australian voice for Siri says, “Chick it out!”

Hai Yen is a laid-back Vietnamese restaurant with friendly service and a comforting menu. The Hawaiian sausage was a standout with its flavorful, slightly charred texture and hearty meat filling, while the Vietnamese dry noodles offered a simple & satisfying mix of meat and seafood over noodles for a homey and comforting taste. A solid no-frills spot for a hearty and enjoyable Vietnamese meal.

Best Vietnam food on Argyle. Clean and delicious. Good service. Only concern is the server always heavily spraying the surface cleaner on table that just left while we still eating and the fumes are spreading. This is chemical hazard and cross contact for food code.

called in for a pickup order of 2 banh mis, both with no cilantro due to allergy. after driving home 30 mins later, opened it up to find lots of cilantro in both banh mis :) $20 in the trash all because the lady on the phone didn't bother to tell the kitchen

I recently visited Hai Yen for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming from the moment I walked in. The staff appeared unfriendly, frowning as though I owed them something, which made me very uncomfortable.

To make matters worse, the owner repeatedly walked back and forth near our table and even burped in front of us while we were eating—something I’ve never experienced in a restaurant before. The waitstaff sat around, staring at us while we ate, laughing and joking among themselves, which felt incredibly rude.

Overall, it was an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. I left with no intention of ever returning.

Love the food here. But service is consistently slow. The last time we were here they forgot to put our order in and didn't check in with us for over 40 minutes.
