I recently visited Hai Yen for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming from the moment I walked in. The staff appeared unfriendly, frowning as though I owed them something, which made me very uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, the owner repeatedly walked back and forth near our table and even burped in front of us while we were eating—something I’ve never experienced in a restaurant before. The waitstaff sat around, staring at us while we ate, laughing and joking among themselves, which felt incredibly rude.
Overall, it was an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. I left with no intention of ever returning.

FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN ARGYLE. Staff is super nice and the food always hits. I’ve liked everything I’ve tried from here, but my favorites are the banh xeo and bun bo hue. Really want to try the bo la lot next time I come in since a lot of people rave about that dish too.
Chicago is brimming with dining options, so there's little reason to return to the same spot unless it truly stands out. Unfortunately, this restaurant falls short in almost every aspect. The food is far below average, lacking flavor and creativity, and the service leaves much to be desired. Our server, while undeniably charming, appeared overwhelmed and inexperienced, making it almost uncomfortable to request anything. I'll never forget the perplexed look on his face when we asked for steamed broccoli as a side, as though no one had ever made such a request before. With prices comparable to other restaurants in the area, there's simply no justification for choosing this establishment over the countless others available.

The food was really good, my friend and I got pho and bun no hue and bo la lat. Everything was delicious but I will say the portions are quite large (for us) but seemed really good for the price. You were getting so much for $14. I would definitely go again and recommend this place for Vietnamese food.
Kid-friendliness: I saw a huge family where they put together 3 tables to seat and there were kids and they seemed pretty happy :)

I love bun, and this is my fav spot for bun in the area. Their sesame lemongrass beef bun is amazing! The beef are thinly sliced with so much flavor. The servers are always friendly and attentive. I like their lalot too.
